Quality Loss with External Wave editing onboard audiocard?

hi.
i wass wondering if i run ableton on my digi001 and use for example wavelab as an external wave editor to compensate for live's wave editing abilities,
taken that all the editing done in wavelab will be done on my onboard realtec97 audio card but stay in the digital domain, do i run the risk of serious quality loss (realtec compared to digi) or is this not really the case because there ain't any A/D or D/A conversions whatsoever?
it's so much easier running the two apps together on the same machine than closing and restarting EVERY TIME you want to precise edit some waveforms.
