no.
Unless it runs under WINE (and I don't know if it would function correctly)

So let me see if I understand this...
1. Install Ubuntu
2. Make sure you have all drivers for your hardware (soundcard, especially)
3. Install WINE
4. Run Live thru WINE in Ubuntu
Does that sound about right?
If so, Timur, you interested in doing some testing?

aah, bummer, thanks for the report.
For other audio guys thinking about experimenting, check out the reaper forum, where it works with Ubuntu and WINE:

I look forward to 5 years from now when someone other than me has spent the enouromous amount of arsing around getting it working better than windows, but until then I can't imagin anything worse than having something you have to fuck around so much with to get it working
I love the idea of using Linux, but everything I've read about audio under linux has sounded like a total pain in the arse so I'm not going near it with a bargepole for audio until someone tells me they've got Live working perfectly with better performance and no pissing about
and I reckon that's 5 years away!

^^ Agreed...just that it's fun to see how far Linux has indeed come. JACK seems to be the equivalent of ASIO, and Reaper users report 3-4ms of use with VSTis under WINE. That's promising.

totally. i dual boot ubuntu and xp. ubuntu for work and xp for audio.
although i run xp under virtualbox in ubuntu, which does run live (unsuprisingly) although there arent drivers for my soundcard (motu 828 mkII) for linux so its not like i can use it properly for making music.
mind you, its alright for running reaktor and stuff like that when im in the building mood. the vm that is, i havent tried reaktor with wine.
still for my work (software development) linux is way better than windows or osx.

Renoise just released a Linux beta. It is not AL but, it is a step in the right direction to get some of these other guys taking a serious look at Linux. I am still under the idea that if Ableton did there own Linux hack with Live on top of it I would buy it in a heart beat. To understand the kind of succes this has in the information retail market one has to only look at VMware and ESX server.

Nope, sorry, didn't mess with Linux for some years now and I'm currently too busy helping Ableton to fix those stability and performance bugs (seen my videos in the Bugs forum?).
