Noise Cancelling Headphones?

How are noise cancelling headphones for mixing? Does the noise cancelling chip within the headphone degrade the sound quality at all?
I wouldn't use them for mixing. I have pair of Sennheiser PXC-250 and they're fine for listening to music on long-haul flights, but don't have the fit, dynamic range or frequency range of better headphones that I use for music (Sennheiser HD-600). I use the PXC-250 with Live sometimes on flights, but any mixes you make will probably have to be revisited with good monitors or headphones later.
I also tried a pair of Sony MDR-NC22 which made funny bass noises in my head when trying to cancel out ambient noise and there's no way you'd be able to trust them for knowing what's going on in the mix.
Maybe a pair of Sennheiser PXC450 would be closer to the mark, but for that much money you could get a really good pair of non noise-cancelling headphones and you could trust what you're hearing a whole lot more.
