had to reformat and now old songs

I had to reformat my pc. but ableton is load onto external hardrive. I couldnt start it from external hard drive, it said I had to install it again. When I install it again, same folder and directory, old files or songs cant find sample tank plugin. This plugin is installed in same directory. Does ableton have old settings for old songs and new settings for new songs. because i change templates preferences. But, that shouldnt matter, should it?
