how do I stop that shit!

I use a guitar with single coil pickups and whenever its pointed anywhere near my monitors they pick up the radio. You got any magnetic devices near the monitors you can move?

I don't think i've got anything magnetic near i'm gonna have to check it out tomorrow but thanks for pointing me in the right direction

What would qualify as magnetic?

And FWIW, I have Event BAS 20/20 with what appears to be unshielded cables. Would you recommend shielded just for the monitors?

The radio interference i'm experiencing is inconsistent. I noticed it just a couple of times when I've recorded vocals and I'd be delighted if I could figure this one out. Many thanks in advance.

Do you have your monitors wrapped in tinfoil ?

The way you stop radio and other HF anomalies from coming into your system is by purchasing ferrite beads and putting them on your wires. This will get rid of the problem instantly.

there's 2 kinds of interference, conducted and radiated. conducted is when noise follows some physical path, usually metal. radiated is when the noise goes through the air, like noise from a computer monitor. if noise gets into the power supply wires then it can be conducted into the speaker's amp and amplified into your ear. it would have to be a power strip with some kind of filter on it.

this has little to do with magnets. a magnet in itself does not cause interference at all, not until you move it. magnets are just one small part of the puzzle, you might as well say 'keep it away from resistors.'

ferrites might help, good tip Olga.

the other night my guitar was picking up the radio or TV, then I wiggled my guitar lead that I've had for over 10 years and it went away. it's likely that the cable is getting old, it lost a continuity and instead became a big antenna hanging off my guitar. think about it, a guitar lead that's not properly connected is just like a big 'whip' antenna people put on their cars and trucks.

shielded cables won't do anything unless your soundcard and monitors are made to work with them, probably not, more likely they'll have the option for balanced connections.


check your cables, it's likely one is flaky.
