upgrading confusion

Happy New Years.
Before the release of Live 7, there were some great offers for upgrading to Live 6. For myself, it would have cost in the neighborhood of $249US to upgrade from my Lite 5 to Live 6 (download version) and then apparently free to Live 7 once it was released.

Before Jan.1, i checked to see if this offer was still available on the Upgrades page on the Live site, but my $249 upgrade was gone and replaced with an upgrade option to Live 7 at $349.

I've contacted Ableton about this but they havent gotten back to me yet. Does anyone know what happened to the Live 6 upgrade offers and if this is still available? Am I SOL and have to buck up another $100 now?

Thanks

I think something went wrong with their shop. Try to add to cart and see the price as it will be calculated there. That's the right one you're gonna pay. Don't trust the upgrade page it's busted IMHO.

You can't buy Live6 from Ableton anymore, as of the Live7 release date late last year.

Which version of 5 do you have (download, boxed, Lite)?
I waited too late as well, so I had to buy the Live 6 upgrade off ebay (legit). Coming from Live 5 boxed, it was Live 6 boxed, and cost $199.

You could do something similar, but you're running out of time to catch the Live 7 upgrade for free (download version). It's nearly over.

Thanks for the reply Pasha. I tried what you suggested and I still come up with the same $349.

On the pricing page http://www.ableton.com/pricing it says :

All users who buy and unlock their Live 6 or Live 6 upgrade between October 1, 2007 and January 31, 2008 are eligible for a free download upgrade to Ableton Live 7, plus special upgrade offers on Ableton Suite.

I'm pretty sure this is what I'm looking for. There just aren't any links to do the Live 6 upgrades. I'm afraid i'll miss my deadline and lose out on the sweet deal that was once offered and Ableton obviously is swamped with support emails.

Cheers

I wonder then why they are still advertising buying and unlocking Live 6 on the pricing page. Since Live 7 has been released, the January 31, 2008 deadline seems to apply now only to those who have bought live 6 but still need to unlock it. Where else am i to purchase a downloadable upgrade? Ableton themselves told my that upgrades should only be purchased through them!

There has been something in the language that doesn't make sense or implies small print. They should have said that you must upgrade to live 6 before live 7 is released or you wont be able to do so after this time, hence losing out on your deal.

Instead they say that you have until Jan 31 2008 yet now i cant upgrade to 6. And you would think that deadlines and prices apply to each other.

I dont know. I only want to purchase my Live products through Abelton but now i feel like i'm getting screwed.

Some people may have been given Live 6 as a gift, and others might have bought it from a different dealer, or bought it with slow shipping.

Think of it like a month-long buffer period so people who already bought it but either haven't received it or haven't activated it can still get the deal.

Which version of Live 5 do you have?
If you have the full version (not lite), you can still get the Live 6 upgrade for that at multiple online retailers, ebay, and at some local dealers...

You can't buy the downloadable upgrade, but the boxed upgrade should still work, right? Perhaps not, but it seems like it would be fine, since there isn't anything funky about Live 5 to Live 6 like EIC.

Zevo,
cheers for the replies.

I have LIVE LITE 5, forgot to mention. I guess i'm SOL. The cost to buy a full version of 6 most likely would be over the price of my current available upgrade, so I may as well bite the bullet and buck up.

Do you know if the current prices for Live 7 will go up in the near future? I heard something about January 15th. $350 i guess isn't all that bad considering I got the Lite 5 for just about free.

audiomidi.com has the lite to full upgrade, but it's $300.
That's almost not worth the hassle if you can get it for $350 anyway.

I looked on ebay for a full version of live 6, but only found 1, and it was $300 as well.

There's another on ebay that's not "buy it now," but it has 9 days left before the auction ends, which would put you right up to the wire.

It might be worth waiting on, and bidding for, if you resolve to buy the $350 version, and if the seller can ship it to you in time for you to activate by Jan. 31st. It COULD happen, but it's a gamble.

Not much help there, sorry.

Good luck,

Appreciate the heads up Z but i think you're right.
I just bought my Live 7 upgrade and had it running within minutes. Figured it was best to stop beating around the bush in denial and just get the damn thing!! The $249 deal that slipped out of my hands hurt, but now I feel like a man possessed, locked and loaded.

Best,
