Windows XP pro SP2: Live doesn't quit properly

Sometimes after quitting Live, then re-loading it again, it reports another Rewire host being active, even when it's the only application active in Explorer. But on examining the processes running I find an instance of Live sitting there, perhaps from another time I ran it, using approximately 10,000K of Memory. When Live loads properly, it occupies about 120,000K.

I'm trying to monitor this problem, to find the situation in which it occurs. Anyone else having this issue?

This happened several times with no obvious reasons. It also happens when no VST is used in a set (only internal plugins). I was told by Ableton to try without USB gear (USB midi controllers or USB audio-interfaces). I cannot say yet if that helps.

Most of the times this happens I can simply kill the process via task-manager, but sometimes I have to restart to get rid of it. :?

If your USB gear loses contact, yeah- that can hang Live.

Turn off power management to the USB hubs in device manager if you haven't done so already; Windows turns it on by default.

Already done, but thanks for the hint. I guess it to be a problem of Live's memory management. Seemingly it is waiting for something to clear up that doesn't and because of that it doesn't shut down properly.

i think its a bug or a failed exception handling of the vst host engine.

Hi folks,

it would be helpful to check the latest 7.0.2 beta if you ran into the problem (that the Live process keeps running).
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=83209

If you experience that problem in Live 7.0.2b4 (or later), please send me a corresponding mail with the Log.txt file (from Live's preferences folder) attached.

Regards,
/Alex
