Adonis, if you had been on the east coast in the late 90's you would have felt it. There was a crazy vibe. You could hear some of the underground stuff actually bubble up to the mainstream and catch radio airplay. I actually heard J-live's "braggin writes" on hot 97. and there was so much stuff coming out that was really really sick. It's still out there, i'm sure, but the energy isn't as intense. And as much as i like the production on current mainstream stuff, i have to disagree with you on the flow. I really think that a lot of these guys who get to use the hottest beats ever made can't fucking rap at all. And the thing is no one really cares anyway.
but whatever.
And just for the record, Meth is terrible in comparison to ghost or rae, i mean, he's funny, but his flow is not really all that.

I was in as much touch as I could've been (out here on the west coast) with East Coast hip hop in the early 90's - mid 90's
but admittedly I grew up on west coast rap - DJ Quick, E-40, Too-Short, Tha Alkoholics, Del (I never liked him though) and the Hieroglyphics's (who I did like) I used to love the pharcyde etc etc
but when snoop dropped jaws dropped - he was gangster smooth...deep cover soundtrack was it?
all
good stuff

i hear ya man.
It was hard to be in touch with the west coast out here unless it was snoop or pac.
but, yeah, skater types knew hiroglyphics and del and pharcyde, they had x-over appeal for sure. And i liked those records. Really like tha liks, mostly because of sick sick sick madlib production. and i'm a huge e-40 fan. love that cat. But that was unusual out here, hardly anybody listened to e-40 on the east. shit that's still true.
anyways, all good stuff.

Who's the best gangsta rapper?......djadonis206 wrote:right now Rick Ross and Birdman are doing it for me
The singles they have out are weak compared to the full length cd's
Plies blew it and Lil Boosie is aight - the first track on his album is pretty slammin
While Jeezy's album is old (so is ricks ross's who's got a new one coming out this feb) that album is pretty off the hook
