Ableton Forum

I am using Ableton 6Le. I keep all of my sounds on a 160gig WD Portable Hardrive. Two days ago I switched from PC and bought a macbook pro running leopard. The actual switch of all of my programs, documents and music was seemless. I was able to open Live and existing projects no problem but when I try to make changes and save it says the project cannot be opened. When I open finder window and look at the xternal HD all of the ableton folders/projects and files have a lock symbol on them and are read only.
I have tried to switch them from locked/read only to read and write but i do not have the option from what it tells me.

So since friday I figured out that if I opened the project and saved as into a new folder I could then open and edit as needed and save with no problems. Good news so I thought. Well today I opened up ableton and a project did some editing and went to save and then guess what? Same frickin message! Ugh! At a loss! Any answers, ideas? Anyone?

BTW. Sux the phone support is down.

Did you tried fix permissions?
What file system is on your WD Portable Hardrive? If NTFS -- OS X couldn't write there, only read. If so you have to reformat it to FAT32 (if you still want to use it with Windows too) or to any of OS X file system (if not). Don't forget to backup all data first
Also try to plug your drive to Windows machine and connect from OS X via network share it will work also if you don't want to reformat.

How do i do that? Drive is FAT32. So far what I ended up doing was collect all and save and then saving the project folders onto my mac hardrive and since doing that I have had no problems. Except my Library Folder and Sounds folders are both locked. Totally frustrated. I just wanna get everything working before y MachFive 2 gets here today . I think what I'm gonna end up doing is taking ableton folders off the external drive and reinstall library and eic on drive when it is plugged into my mac.

'Repair Permissions' you do with the Hard Disk Utility program, which should be in your applications folder (or a utilities subfolder).

But also check if it is possibly just your Ableton Library folder that's set to 'read only'. Open the Info on the folder. At the bottom, where it says 'Details', 'Owner' might be set to 'System'. Unlock, change it to your user name, then change to 'read and write'. Then, at the very bottom, click 'Perform this for all subfolders' (or something like that - I'm not running an English system).
