PadKontrol seems to get the vote around here. The best feeling pads (IMO). The flashing lights are cool. And people are hacking it left and right to come up with all kinds of cool alternative uses for it.
Cool tunes by the way. What time do you guys go on tomorrow night? I'm trying to save my clams for NAMM next week but sounds like you guys might be worth checking out.

padKontrol - pads feel great and are very sensitive (if you want them to be)

Not a fan of tiny pads for live performance myself.
I'm using a Yamaha DD-55c. Inexpensive, tough, can use sticks or fingers, has two footpedals, and if you want to use them, the built-in sounds are pretty decent, too. Battery or AC powered. I use it for triggering video and lighting clips, too.

nice. thanks for the advice! i am gonna look for a pad kontrol to try out. i am looking for something that resembles the layout of the drum racks so i don't think the yamaha dd-55c is right for me. thanks.
beats me... we go on at midnight and probably do a 1 1/2 - 2 hour set. try and check it out.

If you think the pads on a PadKontrol are tiny I don't want to see you playing a piano :-/
Sure, there are good things to be said about big gestures when performing, but you do lose out on a lot of benefits of pad-inputting when doing so: Speed and chording ability are the majors for me.
I am considering DOWN-grading to a monome 64 for this purpose alone: chording. You can do freaky stuff with smaller interfaces.
Anyway, I love my PadKontrol, and anyone who has seen me throw it two meters into the air and catch it again while playing live knows that it's not dull to watch

Well only had mine a couple of days and didn't try to throw around with it yet.
Not for live use though
But it sure seems pretty durable

just read the release notes for Reason 4.0.1 update and it says that support has been added for Akai controllers - the mpd24, the mpk49 and.. the mpd32! i guess that's what Akai will be announcing at Namm then. maybe there'll be a padKontrol2 soon too. anyway in the meantime, padKontrol ftw.
