Free Macbooks for all students

This is insane. My mom is a high school teacher and I just found out that ALL students get a new Macbook their freshman year. Whatever the latest model is they get that and then have to hold on to it until they graduate. This is a public school too.
Guess who is going back to high school. What? I look young for my age.

I think its a large part of their strategy at the moment. A friend just sang backup vocals in the NY Festival of Guitars which Apple was a sponser of. She and everyone else who performed walked away with a free copy of Logic Studio. I was pretty amazed when she told me that.

I guess it's just the changing times. Back when I was in high school all the schools had the ultra sleek Apple IIc computers in the classrooms. Apple has always been big on getting kids while they are in school. I guess the upsetting thing is that these kids probably aren't doing much other than blinging out their myspace pages. what a waste of technology.
Crap, I sound old.

Good prizes, I work in education and in my school board here in Canada the elementary schools all run Macs *since 1996* when we actually had some budget before the provincial conservatives slashed our budgets year on year, our high schools run a concoction of various PCs and can't afford to change.
The best Apple do for us is offer us a 9% discount and allow us to get one free program each school year, so I know people who got Leopard recently, When I say free, this does not extend to Logic Studio, only the Express version and cut down versions of stuff like final cut or whatever. Better than a slap in the face with a wet fish but not the greatest deal on Earth.
And seriously, Lenovo and HP who have no formal supply contract with us have made better offers (Lenovo offered a 15% discount, free laptop cases and a 3 year warranty with a free memory upgrade from 1gb to 2gb) and Microsoft will let us have full versions of Office, Vista Premium (but they ought to pay us to take that off their hands, hee hee), Visual Basic or Frontpage etc, again on the premise of one o/s and one other program per year.
