Problems pre listening with Edirol FA 101

I just got an Edirol FA 101 interface and I'm trying to setup prelisten for cueing so I can DJ. I have set the cue out to be channels 3/4 of the soundcard, and the master out to be channels 1/2, which I have connected to my stereo.
When I play a track and click the solo/cue switch, even though it appears to be going to 3/4 (the little volume meter in the session mixer shows activity beside 3/4) I can't hear anything with the headphone socket on the front of the soundcard. The "soft ctrl" button on the front should, according to the manual, allow Live to control the direct monitor mixing but I can't see how to access this option.
