there's no magic secret

eq / compression / your ears

if it sounds right you're good, if it don't keep tweaking

as far as taking a loop apart - in Live 7 you can cut your loops up.

right - click the loop select slice to new midi clip

drop down menu has warp markers 1/4 beat etc - slice away

have fun

Also look at the bass. Make sure it is not even a nano second in front of your loop kick drum/s. Put the bass behind a teeny bit. It will punch better.

It ain't the loop so much as the relation to all the other bits. So If multiple kiks n snares are involved, make sure they sample lock consistently.
Flamming will knock down the punch and transients quite a bit.

I often silence large chunks of a loop with volume envelopes. You can do subtle (or not so subtle) "call-and-response" arrangements that way.

also reduce the stereo spread to its own range to not cause so much spatial conflicts

So right.
