Im in the market for a new outboard synth. It can be new or second hand... I already have an alesis micron which I quite like, but I want somthing that sounds quite different to add some more colour to my mixes. Not a microkorg.. I would like something with more buttons and instant access to parameters if poss.
Budget is not huge.. about €400... any suggestions for something interesting?
I know precisely not very much about synths, so any help appreciated.

DSI Evolver would be a very good choice..

though it's mono, it's a beast..
very broad sound palette..

Get yourself a roland sh101 (off ebay, they're discontinued)

Get an MS20 or something with an external signal processor - then you can run all your shit through it and enjoy it's filthyness - if that's what you desire !

oops, didn't see the price restriction !

In that case I'd buy a crappy casio, circuit bend it and put the rest of your cash into some distortion pedals.

if you don't know much about synths, a MS20 may be a little tricky to learn at first. I think a Sequential Circuits Pro-One would be a good buy. They sound huge and have access to all parameters via the front panel. They are capable of producing some awesome bass, leads and crazy sci-fi stuff. They are about 25 years old and will be cheaper than the MS20. Not sure how available they are at the moment, but look on ebay.

my choices would be:

sh101
juno 106
nord lead 1 with 2.0 expansion or lead 2 (very similiar)
jp80x0
korg ms2000r (microkorg engine with knobs - really a decent engine)
