2 KRK ROKIT RP5s + RP10s Sub OR 2 KRK ROKIT RP8s

I think I'm narrowing down options for a cheapish monitoring package.

Just wondering what all your thoughts are on either 2 RP5s with the RP10s sub or just 2 RP8s. It's about the same price for either setup. I do want to be able to get the lowest freqs I can, but don't want to lose midrange quality/clarity.

Any other factors I should consider with a separate sub vs just 2 monitors?

I am also still open to any other makes and models in the sub $600 range if anyone has made comparisons to the KRKs.

Thanks in advance.

i have the rp5+rp10 setup and it is fine....you should make sure your room is treated. also, if it is a small room youll prolly be running the sub at -60db at least. Maybe just save up another 400 for a pair of Adam A7's.

If you have a chance, listen to the monitors first. I know, that's obvious but when I demo'd the rp5's I didn't even think I'd need a sub! They had a great low end kick to them even at ultra low levels. Depends on the size of your room I suppose.

Funny how so many people feel the need to buy 8" monitors for small rooms. 6" or 5" momitors fill medium to large sized rooms with really rich sound. Unless you have a ton of cash burning a hole in your pocket the 5" is probably fine on its own, without a sub.

I went to my music shop prepared to buy the Yamaha HS5's and was totally disapointed. If they hadn't had them setup, I would have bought them sound unheard. Once I demo's them I was immediately turned off. I then took a listen to the KRK's, which I never bothered listening to (someone had convinced me these "were only good for hip-hop") and was blown away.

I still want to listen to the Event 5" monitors before I buy the KRK's but man, those Events are going to have to truly blow me away...
