Hi all - Anyone know the frequency response of the Zoom H2's built-in mics?

Thanks.

It doesnt have the specifics in the manual, but it is REALLY good. From deep grumbling sounds you only feel to very sweet air in the top.

I don't have specs available, but have one. I concur. Good.

I couldn't find my manual.

There are front and back mics.

Is this what you're looking for?

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I can't seem to find a specific frequency response for the mics either. The frequency response graph on their site is helpful. Still, I've not seen an absolute range, like "100Hz - 16kHz" for example.

They seem to have a nice frequency response range, from the samples I've heard recorded with it and given your comments. Anyway, just curious. Thanks again.

the graph clearly shows that it goes from below audible to above audible...

Mm yeah...the high end seems to drop a bit though (between 10kHz and 20kHz), don't you think? And as for the low end, the graph stops at 30Hz...

I guess some equalizing could shine-up any muddiness...?

yes. It's a microphone.

Here's a frequency chart of a modified Neumann u87:

you won'tfind muddiness in the 10khz-20khz range. Many people dont even hear that high...

Mhm...

Guess I'm being picky, but it'd be nice if it had a "full" frequency response of 20Hz - 20kHz (like the AT2020, for example)...

True, true haha...

Then go out and get a Marantz recorder and two AT2020s - beggars can't be choosers ;)

I have a Zoom H2 and the manual - can not find an exact freq response range either. Although like others here, I can say they perform excellent for the price range.

Yes, that is the deal. The H2 is very affordable for what it can do. It isn't ruggedized and there are some suspect choices made in its menu layout, but it sounds really good for what it costs. It has four mic capsules and allows you to make a type of poor man's 5.1 surround. It can be used as an audio interface. It does a lot of stuff.
