Any nice Luxurious, atmospheric sounding synths or VSTs?

Post by stefanstorm » Fri Jan 25, 2008 11:22 am

Hi! As ususal I have a very weird, specific request.

I'm trying to find a good synthesizer or VST plugs that can create nice, athomspheric sounds. Not pads and instruments per se, more a collection of tweaking, sputtering, laser-kinda sounds.
The type that you could add to a song to make it more luxurious. I have the microkorg and a VST called 'Crystal' wich both suits my needs. But I feel like I've used all their sounds a bit too much. Of course I could tweak away on said items, but sometimes I just don't have the energy.

Am I making sense? I find this very difficult to specify. I'll try with keywords instead:

Air/Lush/laser/radio/fragile/electronics/schwoos
argh, it just sounds stupid, but maybe you get the general idea.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks / Stefan

I'll jump in before you get the response "you can make any sound on any VSTi if you're prepared to work at it. For gods sake read up on sample and hold LFO's".

Absynth 4 is packed with loads of these types of sounds in the presets. Then again Reaktor is good for all things weird and wonderful. You can also get weird type sounds on the IMPoscar via just automating the filter amount knob.

So in short you can do any sound on any Synth! (sorry)

He he. Thanks, I was expecting that someone would point that out to me. And one day, I'll get around to learning all that, but right now I'm looking for the easy way out.
Thanks, I'll look them up!

Don't be lazy. Presets are for pussies.

Spend some time with Crystal, she'll be nice to you once you show her some attention.

If not, get a rompler and load it up with some of the finest samples you can find.
There are tons of "schwoos" for purchase.

hi, not to be an ass, but as encouragement, you should always have full energy when working on your own music, otherwise your music will suffer from what it could potentially sound like :)

don't deprive yourself of your own talent.

Alternative to Absynth, any kind of ROMpler that comes with effects (Korg 01/W here, does Waveshaping):

This is the first time I've seen luxurious used to describe a softsynth. Can somebody explain to me what that means? Does it have a leather interior, seats 8, and has adjustable climate zones? Help me out here.

Hehe, I'd say anything that doesn't sound like cheap trash would possibly fit that description. 8)

Also consider, luxury is something you don't need, but which makes your life alot more comfortable and enjoyable.

Just don't forget that luxury is something rare and special. You can easily clutter up your sound with too much layering of those Absynth style sounds.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Atmosphere.

Or you could wait for Omnisphere which will be out in September. 8O :?

That thing is going to be a monster.

edit: Ooops, didn't read your second sentence.

+1 for absynth v4

+1 for Reaktor

Both will shine way more if you take some time building your own stuff.

And I agree with the « you can do this with all synth » comment.

If you search an easy way out, the best is to learn how things work and you will make a permanent way out that will be fast and easy all the time.

of course man...have a look on Spectrasonics' Atmospehere....it's probably what you were looking for...but, of course....not only...Crystal is very nice too....the problem is: lot of freeware but....but....always looking for something else...more beautiful..more georgous....for me, it turns around some Native stuff , Atmosphere and two or else others similar soft....try by yourself....question of feeling! have a nice time ...Beryann from France
