please help me understand these key commands

Can you configure key commands in Live? Why the fuck do I have to press Option+apple+P just to hide a plug in window? I'd rather re-assign it to be just the letter "p"
This applies for alot of these wacky key commands in Live? WHy are they so ergonomically mismatched?
I can't figure out how to reassign, or understand abletons' reasoning for the wierd + tricky commands...

Because Ableton hates you.
Seriously, though, I think you are stuck with those keyboard commands. I know of no prefernces page where you can specify key commands they way you can in, say, Cubase.
And if there is such a way, I'd love to know where it is.

p is part of the piano keyboard so you can play notes into Live without any external gear.
first rtfm, then whine.
your beef is having to hit 3 keys?? wow.

those of us with tendonitis or carpel tunnel syndrom or who are just plain lazy (I'm 2 for 3) do enjoy a good configurable key command setup.
I bet you make fun of people who prefer playing Guitar Hero over a real guitar because the former involves no 3-or-more-finger commands.

my .02 about shortcuts
I have 'a beef' with hitting certain combinations when I am doing it several times in a row. Some combinations are slightly awkward with one hand, wait that doesn't sound right.
The ABC keymap in Pro Tools (gasp) is actually rather friendly and with the color coded shortcut stickers on the qwerty, it once made for a pleasant editing experience (back when I used PT). Concerning Live, there should be more shortcuts, mappable functions, and a single key command mode/preference.

no, I play guitar and think that people who think a game is anything like the real thing are posers. it is an incredibly fun game, I've only played it in the store. once I saw The Pixies on the playlist I was sold. then I went home and played Pixie tunes on a real guitar.
I like the built in keyboard, I'd hate to see it go away so P could be assigned to Pick my butt.

pissy mood today, at home with the flu, the weather's really shitty today and I need to hit the store.
keep in mind I only use Live, so I'm completely clueless abut the goodness you've seen in other DAWs.
I mostly do right click instead of 3 key shortcuts.

Yeah, PT and CUbase allow you to change the keyboard commands, so you could continue to use the keyboard as a keyboard, morerecords could use it to open windows, and I, being the lazy one, could use it to pick my butt.
I put my dog to sleep this week, so I should probably take my pissy self off the interwebs, too.

Big beef for me too. The "key" to working fast is being
able to customise shortcuts for your individual type of
work.
3 key shortcuts = often need 2 hands, which slows things
down because you have to use the mouse hand. This might
not be an issue to you, but I tell you, working in logic with
customised shortcuts for all my main tasks probably saves
me well over an hour everyday.
P for piano - I never use that, but would love it as Pan.
Shortcut presets selector like you change color theme thank you.

sounds like a good feature request. there seems to be a lot of common features in other DAWs that Live lacks.
I am enlightened. vomiting, but enlightened.
man Laird, that's heavy, feel free to vent on me.

This is currently my #1 request, user assignable key commands. ALL other DAWs have this except Live. Especially needed as certain functions in Live i use a lot (Crop Sample fi) don't even have a default key command.

wow a few of you guys are real assholes. RTFM? Are you kidding me? You think because I have a gripe about a bizarre key command structure that I didn't know some of the keys were reserved for MIDI keys? I mean, what a douche.
Furthermore, try using a pro app, and then decide if it's unreasonable to press up to three keys at a time.
RTFM is such bullshit for a forum answer, really get a life.
RTFM? SMFD!!!
hey anyone know applescript well enough to do this? hould be fairly simple, but I am not familiar...anyone?

rtfm. key bindings are at the end of the manual.
just trying to help a n00b who's been using Live for a whopping 2 months. besides, I ended up agreeing with you.
