Learming how to use operator

Post by djd_oz » Sat Feb 02, 2008 5:57 am

where do I start? I've read the manual, played around a bit and I'm lost. I'm trying to create kicks, bass, hi hats etc.

I understand the various oscillators, patterns, LFO etc ... but pitch envelope has got me, what does it do to the sound? and why does it have it's own envelope?

How did you learn how to use it? Is it just a random thing, where if you play around with the controls enough and then one day you just get it, or is there some theory behind it?

thnx

Have you done the tutorials that come with live? They are quite helpful.

Otherwise I think it is a matter of lots of practice and reverse engineering patches.

if You ask of the pitch env in general I would suggest You to master it with a simpler, as the machine is a lot easier to understand than operator.

In the downloads section of this site
you will find live movies
In there is a movie of Robert Henke demonstrating operator
I found that quite helpful
Besides that Mr Henke is just sooooo watchable
Comes across like a really cool guy :)

pitch envelope has is own "knob" that controls the amount of pitch the envelope controls. You can set which oscillators the envelope has control over within the envelope window. This way you can make all sorts of sinking and rising sounds.
