I'm getting tired of this shit. Midnight, probably woke up the f'n neighbourhood. Killed my ears.
This time it happened with sampler! Switched a preset, and played a note. Boom! Usually it's one of the AAS instruments, but this was especially bad.
God damn it was scary! Must I put a limiter on the track every time I want to try an instrument patch?
Fix these ridiculous sound bursts please abes.

i always run a saturator with the soft clip enabled on the master channel, solely to avoid extreme bursts... I take it away when I'm mixing.

You're right, I definitely should do the same, and will.
It was just never an issue before Live 7 and it shouldn't be happening.

I used to be mad that there was no way to upgrade from 7 to 7 suite. then they created a way to upgrade. but I didn't.
the reason? cause I tried some of the 7 instruments and got the exact noise you're talking about more than once in one sitting. so I decided maybe I'll upgrade to the suite when they stop f*ing around and give us some proper updates.

scary thing is that this time it was sampler, not the new instruments!
Even with a limiter or saturators soft clip on the master, it's still a god awful noise. I just don't think god awful noises are a very good feature. Even without breaking my speakers.

This has happened to me with Sampler as well as some of the Instrument racks.. .it happened last night.. actually it scared the mess out of me..
Thank god my speakers weren't up too loud... they would have busted... seriously...
haven't had that problem with Tension... Analog... or Electric... which BTW are excellent instruments... really love them.... but when i was changing out some instruments... and doing the link option..
The computer would slow down... and kinda lag just for a second while it was loading (mind you I had 15 tracks going and cpu was a bit much) and boom!
LOL geez... I mean.. had I been in front of the speakers not only could the speakers have blown.. I feel like I could have lost some hearing!
So I just make sure whenver I am switching presets.. or instruments... I turn my volume down until the sound kicks in...

Not ableton, software is sold without waranty of any kind...
The club would be sued first, then the dj if they can prove it's his/her fault, which luckly isnt possible, so no worry to the dj, though I doubt it will do his/her reputation any good...
Im sure ableton team will have it fixed soon
Problem is when you create software it gets exponentially larger as you create. Live must be atleast 2 million lines of code by now, that's a lot to go through finding the problem.

Im now thinking if I could create problems with my lighting solution...
Guess it could go funny and lasers so haywire shooting out in all directions blinding the crowd.
Problem is as im building HARDWARE I could be responsible, luckly it's the installers responsibility to make sure it is safe, ie:
NOT POSSIBLE FOR LASERS TO HIT THE CROWD!

Lol.. no doubt on the reputation..
But yea.. I mean you know.. we can all gripe about it being unstable.. but it hasn't been out long... they are working their tails off to fix it...
And well we had the choice to upgrade... and many should know in the music world... that at times the first few months can be sketchy...
So clearly I have changed my attitude about it all.. LOL at first I was pissy... but now I am more thinking (those poor kids at Ableton are prob looking forward to a long vacation once the bug fix comes out!).
But man.. you know it is worth it.. because Live has changed my life... and I honestly spend all my time on it...

I would totally agree!
I was using traktor to dj, needed a way of launching audio clips as well, started creating my own software to do just that, and just by chance I tried live 2 or 3 that came with a midi controller i got for traktor, after was hooked and saved me one hell of a job creating a music app.

You're kidding, right? Perhaps you should read up a bit on other forums. Of course these things happen, either with the audio engines crashing producing 0dBfs square wave, or plugins misbehaving and sending loud noizes...
Anyway, ALWAYS have a hardware, real, analog, volume control between the audio card and monitors. A software volume control is no good, since, if the audio engine crashes and sends 0dBfs noise or square wave, and you're sitting like 1 meter from monitor speakers with several hundred watts of amplifier, your speakers (and your hearing) will probably be irreversibly damaged...
