You mean MPD
32 or PadKontrol. The MPD24 will be moot once the 32 is released, IMO.

I own an MPD24 but many people speak about the Padkontrol.

Dunno is the MPD24 have note repeat that synchs to Live's tempo like the 32? if it does, then the PadKontrol is only better in that it has really nice pads, which oyu can hack a bit what with the light behind them.

i think i remember talking about the MPD with you a while ago. really happy with mine, only bit of hardware i really use now. it has thw faders and rotaries and pads, and i like the feel. i quite often have full level on anyhow for playing in notes/samples. best thing i've bought since my old akai MPC2000XL and Live.

so not true!
The triggering is MUCH better on the PAdKontrol. As in MUCH better.

although out-of-the-box you have no control over the lights on the pK, all the native hacks for the pK give it a big up over all the other pad surfaces out there.

I will never buy anything sold by Akai because of the serious lack of customer service.

padkontrol + farmpad (free mac app) =
you do what you want with it.
imagine you got a padkontrol and you get rid off what's inside programmed, rid of the text on the buttons.
you can with farmpad totally reprogram it, with the pad lights feedback received from live. you can have 4*16 scenes of 16 pads each, and all, ALL the buttons and knobs are also assignable as parts OF EACH scene, or not, and send controls, or notes, and be part of mute/retriggers groups, or not, or, or, or, or,...
i.e:
yesterday I was configuring pads to trigger scenes, and I have suddenly the wish to have a visual feedback of the metronome, kind of 1 - 2 - 3 - 4,
so I just programmed 4 buttons of the left part of the padkontrol to be lighted by 4 little 1 note empty midi clips that make a "4 following clip suite".
now I got visual metronome on my hacked padkontrol...
what's next ???
PADKONTROL IS THE MONOME OF THE POOR, but with a really good PAD behavior (velocity curves, sensitive, etc.)
go buy one

Is there any way of doing
exactly this with XP running?

Since I couldn't choose, I bought both. The padkontrol and MPD24 side by side, I prefer to play beats and control Live from the MPD.
The MPD has more sliders and knobs.
The padkontrol has more sensitive pads and a cool XY controller which has pitchbend.
MPD can't do pitchbend which is pretty sucky.
The padkontrol can assign CC#s to the pads, MPD can not.
I think I like the MPD better because it feels better when hitting them harder.
The padknotrol is good for tapping soft which is cool also.
I like having them both, but if I would pick one, it'd be the MPD.

see the light (on the pads !!!

)
farmpad is only mac, sad for you, but there are 1 or 2 apps that can run on XP I guess, check the covert operators site, or type "padkontrol native mode" on this forum search box...
good luck !

What I meant by 'really nice pads'!
I think the deal is the PadKontrol has sensors under the entire square, while the MPD has a round sensor under the square pad.... why? I don't know?
