"The lives of children have changed a great deal since Grange Hill began and we owe it to our audience to reflect this.
"We're actively seeking out new and exciting ways of bringing social realism to the CBBC audience through drama and other genres."
These include two Newsround specials tackling divorce and knife crime.

Grange hill has always been a "Hard" school (Or atleast was when I was a kid), now our youths are getting stoned, snorting coke, smoking crack , dropping pills, chasing the dragon and more...) bbc can't show this stuff on tv so grange no longer has any relevance to today's youths.

Allways thought grange hill was a training program for chavs anyway...
Actually the beeb could do somethign useful and turn the tables - lets have a program based upon blowing away chavs with sawn off shotguns :p

See i reckon they should merge tv shows together more...
Like those characters should have moved to eastenders after theyd left school.
OR maybe someone from eastenders might have a stag night in manchester and end up in the rovers.. that kind of thing
I think one family did a move from brookside to hollyoakes a few years ago
Too much time on my hands... i will admit to being an eastenders fan though

Do you not remember Zammo's heroin addiction and subsquent death in the late 80s.
Not saying it's cutting edge TV exactly.

I'm having problems following this thread because I don't know the show, but "knife crime"? Is this a serious issue over there? Is it like living in the Beat It video? I'm not pro guns but by comparison knife crime sounds like a non problem.

It's a problem when you get stabbed.

I would have thought that too, but since a major crackdown on guns here in Baltimore knife crimes have shot up. Still, I'd rather try to outrun a guy with a knife than a bullet.

Yeah, living in a country of people who are either shooting shit or blowing shit up, hearing about knife crime sounds like a manageable utopia....unless of course the kinves are being used by ninjas. That wouldn't be good.
