Record Automation/Session Already There, Just Not For...

1st party stuff (Operator/Simpler/Sampler/Analog/Impulse/Tension/Electric/FX/Clips/Live's controls)
won't record midi automation, but all 3rd party plugs work fine with record automation with no hacks.
Just once and for all, put an advanced option to enable this feature for 1st party automation.
The feature already exists, it's just silly not to be able to use it (without a cumbersome/buggy hack) all these years and counting...
Please?
Either in an options file or pref box, let us just turn this on?
And while we're at it, why not just let Live route midi internally as we need and see fit?
Let us assign tracks that control clips, etc.. within Live without having to use cumbersome/buggy hacks?
It just seems to me that Ableton's own devices and Live itself should be 1st class citizens in your own program?!?!?

the problem is that Live's devices are set up to work directly with assigning knobs to controls, not as MIDI CCs
if you record from your controller into a clip an a track with a VST on look in the clip envelopes section and it will be under "MIDI ctrl" and just list the CC number - the parameters under the device's name wont be automated
the reason it actually works is because your 3rd party VSTi is set up to respond to those MIDI CCs
it works like this so you can permenantly assign controls to those parameters or use automapping without having to mess about with MIDI CC numbers
it is live's most infuriating feature without question, but the reason it's not there is because it is nothing like as simple as it seems and will require a major overhaul
the last semi-official comment from Abe was that it is pretty much top of their list but so complex they still dont even know if they will ever be able to do it
you can do it now with a MIDI loopback and using another track but that;s a bit of a PITA and not that helpful
I think one possible solution could be related to the addition of internal MIDI loopback features which would also be nice one day

They are over thinking the issue.
So, yes please, internal loopback device!!!

I mean, it's stupid for instance that I should have to find a 3rd party replacement for operator, etc.., just to get the proper behavior in Ableton's own app!

I guess my point is - nobody understands this better than them - it is their their great nemesis

We we hope that things that are important to existing Live users are what Ableton actually works on, but it seems like instead, that new features that will also (not always) be completed are introduced for marketing purposes.
Non-customizable automap, etc...

I do appreciate your replies though, it just, you know, 6-7 years of waiting...
It just seems like the awesome feature - clip envelopes (for example) were so many times more difficult to implement, and if this were really the programmer's nemesis, they would have defeated it long ago...

I have always wanted to be able to record automation into a clip in session view instead of in the arrangement.
But if I get the thread correctly you guys are saying you CAN do that with 3rd party vsti's but not the Ableton ones?
It doesn't work either way for me.

if you dont assign a controller to a paramter on the VST then the MIDI CC the controller sends is recorded - if the VST is internally set to respond to that CC then it will work
a way to record automation from Kore2 into a session clip?

are you folks saying there is a way to record automation (knob turning) from NI Kore2 into a session clip?
IF so I'de like to know how...
Live 7.03 Macbook Pro, Mackie Onyx 1640 FW, NI Komplete 4 with Kore2, Motif ES6 as MIDI Controller Keyboard

if core outputs MIDI CCs or is supported by instant mapping then yes
you can set the Lore as the input for the track you want to record on, then you might need to use something like MIDI yoke or IAC and have a dummy track just to take the MIDI from that track and spit it back to the device parameter you want to control via remote
thanks for the insights. I got it goin now

went to the software synth plug-in and got it working from there the EZ way.. Just assign controller knobs to software synth knobs and the knob turning gets recorded as CC envelopes like you want to in the session clip..
thanks again
Oh everybody waiting for this to work on ableton synths? just switch to Native Instruments if you can afford them...

they sound
WAY better anyway.
