stacks/folders - update report

I had been using Quay to get my folders running how i wanted them in the dock but this new update means i can do without that. I have noticed that if i have a Quay folder in the dock set to list view and also drop on the same folder but use the now standard osx function to see it in list view (now with custom icons too YAY!) it opens much faster than the Quay version.

This update also seems to have fixed a dreadful bug in preview that would always crash if you adjusted the colour of a pic then tried to save it.

I (and many others it seems) can still not play .mp4 videos after the recent quicktime update. It just opens the vids as audio files only. Have to use VLC.

Live 7.02, my audio interface and keyboard are all running super smoothly.

Logic 8.01 seems to be working fine here too.

Interestingly, I just ran the Live 6 &7 Performance test, and I'm getting about a 63% with crackles now, I was getting 56% glitch free before.

Definitely caused by Airport, if I disable that performance is exactly what it was before.

Tarektih - Always the brave one when confronting a software update. I am on 10.4.11 and Logic 8.0.0 because I dread something happening (also because of the Ultrabeat issue with 8.0.1).

Plus, I am using VMware a lot and don't quite know what to do about backing up and what happens to a cloned copy of OSX with VMware.

Best,
AB

I'm pretty good about backups, so it's not a big deal for me to revert to the last OS version.

i never quite understood the difference between these updates and the COMBO updates. What's the advantage of one over the other?

Say you're still on 10.5.0. The "combo" will take you right to 10.5.2 in one shot. Whereas the "regular" updates will take you from 10.5.0, then 10.5.1, then 10.5.2.

I'm excited this is finally out. As soon as the Leopard DVDs at the Apple store are 10.5.2, I'm upgrading. <--that is the arbitrary point that I set and told myself I'd upgrade then. (Whenever I wipe my disk in the future, I didn't want to have to go back to 10.5.0 then download half a gig of updates to get where I need to go. And I assumed it'd be glitchy until 10.5.2 anyway.)

If you use software update to update you run the risk of it not working 100% this is a very very rare thing. If so they always suggest using combo updates as it is a little bigger but complete . Also if there is multiple Macs then 1 download can be used again. It is no big deal at all but combo gives you an option to reinstall the update and fix any hassles as software update will not allow you to reinstall.
I forgot the a combo update also allows you to do things like jump from 10.5 to 10.52 where as software update usually doesnt so it combins all previous updates

couple questions, if you don't mind.

has anyone had any troubles with rme fireface400 and os x 10.5?

i run parallels for xp on macbook pro, the open applications in the xp-vm sit in the dock, theres usually 10 icons in the dock annoying me. will this "stack" feature let me bundle all those into one convenient folder type thing which i can expand to access whatever xp application i need? is there anything in leopard which will let me do this?
