Hi guys can anyone pls recommend me a pair of small studio monitors below 400USD

I'm currently considering M-audio or KRK monitors.

I've heard that M-audio monitors r very versatile n can be used for commercial purposes such as listening to music, watching movies and playing games. I'm new to all this n from what I heard studio monitors r tailored to have a flat frequency response so that we can hear a sound in a "pure" form without any additional EQ to it. So how can it still be used commercially I mean wouldn't our games n movies sound flat n boring? Thanks for taking your time to read my post n PLS help me out as I'm seriously in need of a studio monitor

Very happy with my KRK-V6 mk2 - maybe a bit over your intended budget....

I've been eyeing up the ESI Near 05 Experience... 150 quid/ 300-odd bucks I think...gotta be worth a try at that price.

really really good sound for the price. I've been using them for 4 years.

These are more portable but not very accurate. The hi's are too high, and the lows are too low, so your mix will sound bass heavy and lacking in top range when you play it out on another system. decent interim solution but I don't recommend for full time use

Try a search on here. There is a huge amount of information about monitors that can be used for research. From what I have read the KRK monitors are a great buy for the price. I am heavely considering some for a smaller set of near fields to be used at home.

OK I'll make it easy:

1. Buy the KRK
2. Don't buy the M-Audio


I compared the two when I was shopping for monitors, and the KRK beat the crap out of the comparably priced and spec'ed M-Audio.

not quite 400$, more like 500, but well worth it are teh Blue Sky Media desk monitors......

get 'em, and save up for something better, i.e. anything over 1000 bucks. or stick with the rokit8, if you are happy with them. i find them a little fatiguing, ymmv. take some tunes to the store, that you know well, and test the ones you are considering. and if you do plan to spend more, later, start listening to the high end models now, so you are well informed when you want to drop serious cash... and try to get them a little cheaper, act disinterested, and say you would like to spend less, say, 300. they might let you walk out with the rp8 for 350...

I've been using Dynaudio BM 5As. They are amazing - bright, full and yet very flat/true. I had Alesis Monitor 1s and I continually felt like I had cotton stuffed in my ears. These are a little above your limit ($990 US per pair) but once I got them home and cranked them up, I didn't regret the expense. Lord knows they'll depreciate a lot slower than my computers and all my music software!

go with krk over m-audio. I use the V6 second generation and have also owned the RP8's. I would go for the most expensive KRK's that you can afford. They are a fantastic value. The BM5a's are also nice but more expensive than a used pair of V6's

I'm also looking for a pair of monitors and I was not impressed by the KRK's.

I really liked the Yamaha HS80-M's but they were a bit pricey.
Has anyone had a chance to hear the HS80's? What did you think?
