Now that i have set up correctly my FBC 1010 pedal for giving midi messages to live, I have another problem for making good guitar loops on live.

My Laptop (a mac intel) shows a extremly high latency when i use my old midiman sound card. If I reduce the latency the classic pops and clicks appear. Is this maybe a problem with the drivers?


Which could be a good interface to plug my guitar to ableton live and avoid high latency or bad sound?

any idea?

line 6 toneports are pretty good

the whole Line 6 line, spend as much as you can.

I just go straight into my RME Multiface 1 and use Guitar Rig 2 as a plug-in within Live. Don't even need a pre-amp - though I do have EMG active pickups on my Tele. Before I got the EMG's, I used to boost it through a JoeMeek VC1 first.

The advantage of using a soft amp is, of course, that you can change the tone, effect, etc, after the event. With all the Line 6 gear, you're stuck with the original signal you fed in.

Guitar Rig is absolutely brilliant.

i have had an ongoing problem with my fireface 800....there is digital noise on the instrument input. way too much for it to be usable. i thought it was the unit, exchanged it for a new one, same problem. tried another in the store. same problem.
i tried multiple sources and cables, it is definitely the rme.

love everything else about the unit, so i just run through a pre/comp into a line in which is dead quiet. using the latest drivers and firmware on the rme, running a g4 with osx 10.4.11.

Only if you track from their hardware like Pod XT etc.. these guys were talking about using the Toneport which is a low-latency USB interface. You can record the guitar dry and then mess with Gearbox plug-in after tracking.

I agree you're 'stuck' with the original signal, but who cares? millions of guitar tracks have been done where players are 'stuck' with the original tone.

for me it was having Guitar Rig put a load on my computer and having it crack and pop when the set got big. personally I prefer to have the horsepower for my tone outside the computer, reliable, constant and I've found the Pod XT to be a great little box.

it's also forced me to stop dicking around with a guitar tone, record it and move on.

YMMV.

Waves GTR has a nice Preamp co-designed with PRS Guitars. I've been using it with GTR as well as Amplitube.

I bought a Pod X3 today for this very reason. I love the idea of Guitar Rig and liked all the sounds but even my tricked out MPB couldn't handle the CPU load, got frustrating.

The Apogee Duet has a instrument in, and the sound quality is amazing.
