Arm the MIDI track that the plugin's on (the red button in the track's strip) . If the track's not armed, the MIDI data won't pass through to the plugin.

There is a button called "arm" in every channel. Choose the channel you put the VST on and "arm" it - then Ableton responds to it. Have the big sister, the Xboard 61 - and it works with any midi controller.

tnx for the quick reply
okay this is the issue
i dont know how to even load the VST files on a channel.
only thing i know is to go into abletoni plugin tab , double click where it says proteus, little window opens with a TOOL , then this smaller window opens with a virtual keyboard where there u can actually load the sound banks but i cannot play with my keyboard:(

I don't know v4 of the program, but this is how it works in later versions at least - open a new project (or take the default one), go to the VST plugins tab, see Proteus, want to have it playing and drag and drop it in your arrangement. When you hit the midi track that is already in the arrangement by default (1xaudio 1xvideo), Proteus sits now on that thing. Otherwise a new midi track has been created by Live. I believe double-clicking the Proteus entry in the VST tab does the same/similar. Once you have a track with your Proteus on it, you have the "arm" button - depending on what view you chose, it is either at the bottom of the track (in session view) or at the right of it (arrangement view). If you configured your Xboard as your midi input in the configuration, you should now be able to load a patch and play funny sounds.

Note: you should take a look into your manual. Typical beginner's questions you're asking
