HI fellow live lovers-
I installed LOGIC and my only question before I sell it is whether I can use its effects and instruments as audio units inside LIVE's interface in version 4!
also, what audio unit synths can I use with live 4?

No you can't use Logic's built-in plugs outside of Logic, you could consider Rewire if you really want to use them (and they are very good). Logic can can use AU but the built-in Logic plugs are not AUs themselves.

the EVP73 and the EXSP24 are both Audio Units. i'm selling Logic also as Live 4 will be all i need, but i'm keeping these two AUs for use in Logic.

If you are serious with producing recordings I would advise you to keep Logic, since it offers some stuff that Live doesn't - especially in the mixing area. But if your main interst is performing and live mixing you won't need Logic together with Live.

I would wait until I am using Live so much that I no longer fire up Logic. That may or may not happen for a while. Logic midi is mature, Live's midi is new and may not live up the the forum user hype with the initial release of 4. Logic will hold its value, keep it for a while. That's my plan anyway.

i moved (back) to cubase after the logic upgrade pricing scheme turned me into not an emagic customer anymore. and now i'll probably use cubase a hell of a lot less often but i'll never get rid of it. there's certain things a ~traditional seq will always be useful for, esp (as noted), mixing.

I have Logic and Cubase sx. I would like to get rid of them both but there will come a time (probably the second I sell them) I will need them again.

In saying that I probably wouldnt sell Cubase as I do like certain aspects of the mixing environment which Live doesnt have (but will someday). As for Logic I could certainly get rid of it as I dont like its way to overcomplicated approach.

Don't think of it as transferring your systematic approach you use in Logic to Live, it won't work as midi in Logic is very traditional. Live is a whole different way of writing music and you have understand that changing from Logic to Live will free you from the old system and introduce you to something new and different, if that's what you want. Just look at the last couple years in audio. People have used Live differently than any other app out there and because midi is more focused on creating groove clips in Live you will simply integrate that into the audio portion of Live.

i thought about selling logic, but the space designer reverb is just too fucking sick. i need it on everything. logics plugins are just amazing. period. i like to then put the sounds in live and play with them. i think the two go hand in hand very well. they are both excellent tools. i doubt a mechanic says " i dont need a screwdriver, because i already have a wrench". the more weapons in your arsenal the better, its just important to find the right place for get the most out of each one.

I was on Logic from 4.7, finally ditched it 6. Lost years of my life to that fucking program and, despite also loving its plugins, hate it with a passion inversly proportional to my love for Live. Program with infinite flexibillity - as long as you do it the way Emagic wants you to and have all the time in the world to set it up. Ever try to import environments and watch Logic completely freak out? Remember smart snap? Ever try to play more than one VSTi at once without i/o tricks etc.? Don't you love TBA and hyperdraw? Ever try to graphically edit pedal information (outside the event list) and have incessantly snap to the bottom as soon as you touch a breakpoint? Don't you love how the only way to move zones in the EXS is with those two key commands buried in the key command list? What I love the best are all the little things you need to know to actually use the program that you figure out after, in some cases, literally years....

Unless you are synching to video/film and need to adjust time signatures as well as target visual cues to music, my guess is 4 will do everything you need provided it does what its supposed to.

Since moving to Live my mixes have sounded better as well. This could be due to a number of factors of course, but Live is most certainly capable of delivering performance in the realm of mixing on par with Logic. No grouping, but you can bet its on Ableton's list...

All I can say about Logic, is it ain't no Mac program! That's for sure... no matter how much Apple sticks their logo on the box! I've used Macs for 20 years, and that program breaks all the rules for a Mac interface! Yikes! Sorry, I never got used to it, and I knew what I was doing! Reason... now that's a Mac program! Live... very good... but Logic...No way!

Maybe Logic is not "a Mac program" (whatever that might be) but since two years Mac is now The Logic Computer Over here I've been using Logic on both Mac's and PC's and maybe I never realized what "a Mac program" is because Logic was about the only software initially running on my first Mac.
