I'll update eventually but i'm not sure if some of the recent updates in version 7 entirely get my attention. I'm curious about opinions on Drum Rack, the new compressor, EQ8, and spectrum.

Drum Rack looks great but at the same I'm not too bothered setting up my impulse instruments the long way with my controller.

Any other finer details to v.7 that I may not be aware of?

The time sig automation is what got me. The Slicing is nice too.

First off, the new compressor is fantastic and worth the basic upgrade price on its own.


I have all my synths, and stuff. so I am not a guy who went 4 the suite.

I have sampler... blah blah...


eq 8 is really nice to track with. I don't know what else you have, but it just seems to me, like live is raising the bar with some of these built in tools...

Drum racks are cool. I was using em lot's in the beginning not so much anymore.

basically, I understand why people say, Ableton, keeps avoiding some really key and needed things.

but, all in all, its still a worth it upgrade.

Um, spectrum I am using rarely... its an analyzer it does what it does...

what other software compressors do you have though?

The basic upgrade is what? 100 bucks? 130? I forget...

meanwhile, the new compressor in live is up there with some of the best soft comps around...

although, come version 8, maybe they really need to start adding some of the key things that are missing...

The Suite is actually superb if you have a need for those type of virtual synths and sounds. Even better if you can get educational discount, it worked out at 24 dollars per instrument only for me and even if these instruments may not be the absolute best in their field (for example, I have FM8 and I prefer it to Operator, but Operator is still a great synth) they are strong.


Of course, if you already have a sampler like Kontakt, an FM synth like FM7 or 8, an electric piano, string modelling *quite rare* and an analog synth (you probably do if you're an ableton user given that we are the official Zebra 2 fan club here but we also use GForce and Arturia synths a lot, plus stuff like Massive and Pro 53 by NI) then you may not feel a need.

Given that I did not own Sampler and Operator when I first got into Live at version 6, the Suite gave me 5 great synths for 24 dollars each on educational pricing, so it was a no brainer - DEAL !!
