Hi,

I am recording some songs with drummachines having multiple outputs.
As the drummachine is patternbased I record several scenes in live and
stumble upon a time-consuming issue.
I wonder if there is a shortcut or setting for what I want to achieve:

* Record EXACT bar length, so when you stop you have 2-4-8 etc.. bars without the
need of trimming each clips end marker(weird that when selecting all the recorded
clips the start and end markers are not available anymore?...).
With one clip, it's ok, but with 10 clips it gets pretty long and boring.

* Or if the "exact recording" doesn't exist, the ability to crop all the clips
at once: ie, most of my clips need to be two bar loops, but to make sure
I have everything I need I stop the recording at approximatively
bar 3 and something, well same as above, either in Arrange or Session view
Live doesn't let me set the length for all clips at once.
When I shorten the recorded audio on the Arrnage page and make a
two bar loop, select everything and then Command-click crop sample,
it doesn't crop the samples at two bars????

Hi again,

I've found a partial answer to the problem:
record scenes---select "1 bar" refresh rate in preferences---while the last bar is being recorded of the length you need click on the next scene= it will end the clips of that scene at an exact rounded bar, just delete the next scene containing the extra sound after.

But still looking for tips on how to crop multiple samples that exceed a rounded number
of bars??

You can record exact bar lengths in the arrangement view.

Look at the very top of the screen and just to right of the centre point you will see the loop section. There you normally choose how long your loop is and you can activate your loop with the loop on/off button.

This loop section also serves as a setting for punch in / punch out recording. In other words where you want to start recording and where you want to end recording. Set the beginning of the loop where you want to start recording and the end of the loop where you want to end.

Just before the loop button is the punch in button, which activates the start time of the recording. Just after the loop button is the punch out button, which activates the end time of the recording. If you have them both on then Ableton will start the recording at the loop starting position and end the recording at the loop end position.

This way Ableton will start and stop recording where you want it to.

Lastly, it is best to have the loop button turned off during recording, unless you want to keep recording over what you just recorded.
