When I try to map 2 notes to a clip slot, Live takes 3 notes.
The first 2 notes are taken twice.

This is actually by design; your C-2 note is shown twice because it is the "root key" of your clip. The first key you hold down when mapping to a clip becomes the root. You can hold down up to two additional notes, one above and one below the root key when mapping.

Because you did not hold down any notes below your root, it shows the note twice; one time identifies it as the root, and the other time identifies it as the extent of your range.

The (Live 7) manual has a quick blurb on the top of page 403 about it, but to your credit, it's not entirely clear about the behavior of mapping to a range of only two notes.

Cheerios Pip!

Can't believe I missed that one. I could have sworn it only used to show 2 notes, but i probably got it confused with assigning a range to something without Root key.
