should there be a sticky for n00bs?
should there be a sticky for n00bs?
what i propose is a user maintained thread, that the forum could post common advice, ranging from what is side chaining, how do i render, to my favorite, mac or pc. we could type the tip in bold, large, at the begining of the post, and normal for the post itself. something like this:
which is better, mac or pc?
it really does not matter. macs generally cost more money, and run a different operating system than virtually every other computer vendor, who tend to run windows. if you want a mac, and don't mind the price, buy a mac. if you want a little more value, or the sheer power of designing your own system, by all means, do it!
both operating systems run live. everything else is cosmetic. buy what you are comfortable buying. do your research, and test all models you are interested in. specs can be found on the manufactures website, among many other scources.
[/end post]
and so on and so forth. we are all smart enough to keep it real, and ignore the spam. could cut back on snarky replies, or lack there of.
just a thought...

+1. Then instead of replying willy nilly RTFM!! you could reply RTFS!!! This makes far more sense as a gentle prod to noobs, I mean the genuine noobs starting with no DAW experience (PICK ME, PICK ME) because the manual is not all that is cut out to be.... no really! Then people can have a reference for starting threads if something doesn't quite click. ![Embarassed ](./images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)

iMac - 10.10.3 - Live 9 Suite - APC40 - Axiom 61 - TX81z - Firestudio Mobile - Focal Alpha 80's - Godin Session - Home made foot controller
Who decides what gets stickied? What's new to one noob may be old hat to another.
If the stickies are kept factual, they can be very useful. But as soon as opinions get thrown in (like 'Mac or PC - it really does not matter'... it DOES matter to some, like those of use with Mac-specific software), it stops being as useful.

we decide. we could have a round table, disscussing what we think should go in there, and post up. if it appears that a question not dealt with in the sticky continually pops up, send it to the sticky. might make it easier on the n00bs, and if they can't find help in there, come out to the forum. basically i propose a mini manual, written by us, as how to get started with live, in our words. might be a crazy thought, maybe too much... just curious.
it would really only work with full cooperation from us. if taken seriously, it could be immensely helpful. posts can be edited easily, and updated. for a n00b, what mac specific software matters? this is the ableton forum, and ableton works on both. it should be up to the n00b to research which plug ins and such work for which platforms, not us. i wouldn't post my example in the sticky, i would prefer it were a little more well written, but it was exactly that, an example.

I think this will assist in solving the mac vs PC debate.

The Mac/PC debate should never be solved! Where's the fun in that? It's entertaining watching the insecure PC users with their inferiority complexes trying to justify themselves!
Let's see who's first...
And who wants to take the forum seriously? This is music, not politics or cancer... it should be fun!![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
