...and now with bigger hd! hmm.. but i'm still not sure to buy it now.
What about the "Montevina" Chipset or so calles Centrino 2?
Should I wait or not, damn!
Any thoughts guys?

Another question: which hd capacy would you prefer? 5.400 or 7.200?
How about loudness? But 7.200 better for samples, he!?

Thanks alot!

that's gotta be the weakest macbook pro update yet.

(And the 17" always had 3 usb ports).

totally agree here!

the biggest joke is the '100mhz more for 220 euro' update...

does someone know whether the batteries from a 1.86ghz mbp (the ones without fw800) fit in the new 15"? same capacity?

The rumors were correct about the upgrade happening today.

The base model got a speed bump for the same price. But the top model is still the same speed (2.6ghz) and still the same price.

Do I have my facts straight? I wonder if I'm missing something...

No, you got 'em straight. WEAK update. You could have had a 2.6 GHz 17" a heck of a long time ago. And you still have to pay to upgrade to it!

LED screens. Video upgrade. Who gives a fuck about the hard drive because you can get a 200GB 7200 drive and stick it in there yourself for $170 and use the 250 that comes with it as an external.

Who gives a crap about spinning your pictures in a fucking circle! What is this, the Microsoft Coffee Table?

+1
though i'm sure that, in time, some very interesting uses will be found for the multi-touch pad.

Whoa, down boy! Sparky's getting rabid. Someone throw some meat at him.

Hmm, oh well, I've finally reached the point (tired of excessively rendering to disk) where I really need to upgrade. Now it's just a matter of picking which one.
sparklepuff wrote:LED screens.
I know they're better for the environment, but are there any other advantages, like longer battery life or sharper graphics appearance?

Yeah, I guess it would be safe to say for most musicians, it's not a feature that currently has any use for music production programs, like Live. By the time music software could support these gestures for something useful, it will be time for a new laptop anyway.

better battery performance apparently.

Personally I think this is great news. I can't afford a new laptop right now so it's good to know I am not missing out on anything.

Wasn't the fsb speed bumped as well... and cache sizes went up I believe. Not sure what else the Penryn 45nm move entails... power management I s'pose.

Hopefully the new Penryn chip and/or recent Leopard updates have addressed the santa rosa macbook performance mayhem (and the need for 3rd party coolbook fix) we've been hearing about.

LED screens.
The LCD screens arrived on the 15" last update. I have 1 sitting on my lap. So we can't exactly call that. They are very bright and I'm happy with my battery life.

As for WEAK update. I guess this is going to be the way forward from now on. It's not like the pre-Intel days where Apple sat round waiting for motorola and IBM to develop chips so they could update every couple of years and have a ton of time for innovation and to implement designs.

Intel offer a much more fluid and dynamic upgrade route so I guess, when a product is a refined as the MBP (since it's been about the longest of the portables) it will be further and further between all the major upgrades.
