I just won 40 3" Acoustic Studio Wedge Foam 12"x12" pieces for $40. They are remnant pieces of Auralex studio foam. Maybe look a little rough, but work just the same. I figure I just got $500 of acoustic treatment for $53 incl shipping.

Hmmm....you got me worried there for a second! I think these are both soundproofing and acoustic treatment in that they are absorbing sound to prevent reflectons. My studio room is rather small, so it has a nasty ringing I'd like to get rid of. Hopefully I'm right!

Foamtak works really well. Just be sure you're happy with the placement of the foam once you spray and stick it on.

fuck that. liquid nails on poster board, thumb tacked to walls. this way you can easily move the panels, if needed. for the ceiling, a brad nail gun works wonders...

I used sewing pins, actually map pins to be precise, from a stationary store. They are just short sewing pins. They had black tips/heads so for most angles they blend into the charchol grey foam. I see them when looking staight on but I couldn't bet $4.95! And totally moveable too. I didn't mount the foam to anything either. Mine was large sheets, yours are tiles so should be ezy pzy to pin to your wall, providing its drywall or such.

Acoustic absorption != sound proofing.
Sound proofing takes decoupling, air, and mass.

Foam products will help tame high end reflections a bit, but they are not anywhere near as good as mineral fiber absorbers/bass traps.

Get 2'x4'x4" ones without backs and place them in your corners. Use the foam for a reflection free zone at where you mix...

Which is why you don't mount sound proofing foam with nails as you're going to create an acoustic bridge to you wall again, this is where the spray on glue comes in handy, but since you'Re more worried about acoustic absorption, it's easier without the glue.

I was actually surprised at the difference this foam made. I can hear the upper mids and highs much more clearly now...like I'm really hearing just the sound coming out of the speakers for the first time...not nearly as much blur from room echo. Best $50 I've spent in awhile!


btw...that's 36 of the 40 1'x1' panels.
