Transport buttons from AKAI MPD24...

Hi,

I know the Abes are busy right now but is it possible for the next update to allow easily (without any Bome's or something for MIDI routing) the transport buttons from the MPD24 to drive the software ?
You know... I tried it on REASON 4 and it's quite impressive and so usefull to record, play and stop the sequencer just with one click on it. I think the button ">>" can be affected to the Following Track Button, maybe...
I know that it must be a big issue as AKAI choose to send MMC controls over this feature. A MIDI note would be much easier.
But I know you like chalenges at Ableton's HQ, so... Many thanks if it is possible.
See ya'

Yeap I agree. Please support MMC in the future Ableton, every other software sequencer supports it (other than FL but hey thats FL)

Yes please!

New Version from the Akai website: 1.09
Date: 03/07/07

New features/Changes:
1. Add MIDI CC functionality to the transport buttons.

Bug fixes:
1. Ensure that Sysex Device Enquiry is sent over both USB and MIDI
2. Fixed Updater to work with Windows Vista PCs.
3. Fixed bug where pads set to send program change would always send a 0 through the MIDI connection.

This is great !

Hi !

Finally, everything is getting solved ! But... By the manufacturer of the controler. Is it the consequence of any feedback from this forum to Akai's HQ, via Abe's team ? If it's that so, that is a great job from these two companies !
And many thanks to this fellow that give us the tip today from AKAI's !!
My MPD24 is actually upgrading its firmware and I can't wait to test this great new feature : editing MIDI CCs on transport's buttons !!!
I wonder if this feature will make things harder under Reason 4... But I want to have a positive attitude and be sure everything is ok. Is it normal that the upgrading process under Vysex is still so long ?
Great day !

is it working or not?

The transport control on the MPD24 now has the option to transmit CC 115-119 instead of just MMC, which Live does not accept. So now you can map the transport to where ever you want, such as Launch scene, Play, Record, Stop, etc. Also, the program change now works correctly. My sysex transfer to the MPD24 took about 2 minutes.

My MPD24 is version 1.09 now !

Hi !

Yeah ! Everything's fixed now but what a job to upgrade this device !
Let me explain : I work on a Macbook Pro 17" so generally, I used to work under Mac OS X Tiger. I follow all the procedure explain on the .pdf file from Vyzex to upgrade my MPD24. But... Still working under Tiger ! And Vyzex is not working correctly under this OS (and I still don't know why) !!!
So, fortunatly, I have my Windows XP partition running under Bootcamp and Vyzex works perfectly with this OS (still don't know why) !
But now, I have a question : how could you change MMC and/or CC for the transport's buttons ? Is there any online advices or something ? I haven't found any Change Log from AKAI for this upgrade...

I'm pretty sure the transport buttons, when in CC mode, are fixed to 115-119. I haven't found a way to change their CC numbers. It's seems a little odd because you can assign any CC number to the knobs and sliders.

On the MPD24 you have to select the edit button ,then you select one of the transport buttons and press enter. After that you can select MMC or CTRL by turning the enter button.

Right !

Hi !

Many thanks for Gnuus' advice. I've done it and LIVE 7 seems to catch MIDI CC from the MPD24 ! I've set it to the transports' buttons of LIVE and save it as default preset. But, despite this, it seems that my older live's files didn't take this preset in it. But it's not so difficult to re-assign all the 5 buttons.
In REASON 4, you have just to change the preset from the MPD24. And all seems to work perfectly, as the buttons are still in MMC mode !
So everything is ok for me. I'm just waiting now for the 7.0.3 for the Drum Rack new attributes with the MPD24 !
Really good advices here and thank you so much everyone...

Go to :

http://www.akaipro.com/contentmgr/showd ... /1122/tt/5

Download 1.09. You'll need the Vyzex software to transit to the MPD24. Might as well download the latest version of Vyzex too, if you don't have it.

Read the Vyzex user guide PDF for step by step instructions to update the OS.
