drum rack oneshot triggering...

Does anyone know if its possible to set drum rack sounds (in Simpler) to play their whole length regardless of of midi note length? I'm having a problem as, for example, I may have a 16th note snare roll using the same sound but as midi notes in a live clip can't overlap each other its only playing the initial attacl of the sound before retriggering the next note.

I'm sure this wasn't the case in Impulse, but as I'm generally slicing wav/rex files they are automatically put into their own simpler and I can't find any appropriate 'one shot' settings.

Can anyone help???

Try to adjust your volume envelope, if you turn the release all the way up then you should hear the full sample even if you only play the note briefly.

This question comes up so much (from myself once as well), there should be a sticky or special note in the manual!

Seriously, it's retarded that a function as obvious as "play the full sample" should be so obscure in instruments (both Simpler and Sampler) now considered standard drum modules for Live.

Edit: Oh and yeah, make sure both "Length", plus "Sustain" and "Release" (Volume envelope) are turned all the way up. You can then save this as a Device Preset so it's always like this...

I had this same question 3 hours ago and spent about 30 minutes working this out. Just drag one of the drum pads that you have set up the way you like to your live directory > Defaults > Dropping Sample > On drum racks.

You can easily create a one-shot in Simpler by turning the release and decay to max. In sampler, it's easy. Just enable "trigger" in the loop mode section.

Cheers guys, thats helped me out a treat!

However, just one final niggle! - I set up a drum pad and saved it as a default as selthym advised, but what exactly does this entail? I thought it would set it as a 'preference' somehow so whenever I dragged another sample in those would be the automatic settings. However, it doesn't...does this mean I should actually drag this sample in first and then hot swap it for the one I actually want. Seems a bit convoluted, is their any other way to fix a default setting?

yeah, that works for short sounds, but for a long phrase it does not work, I am looking for a true one shot play, without the sound level fading at all...

if it is not possible, then we need a true one shot play mode!!!!!!!

put a note-length midi-effect just before the simpler. set it to max note-length.

that will kinda work, except i think it will not sustain on overlapping notes.

Hi Guys,

Could you help me out here with drum triggering setup? I'm trying to incorporate 2 drum pads into my acoustic kit. I've got ableton recognising the trigger signal but I don't know how to get simpler to trigger a drum audio sample for live performance. I could get a my m-audio keyboard to play the sample but no the drum trigger pad. Where should I map the trigger pad to for starters? Anyone?

I'm using a roland tmc-6 for converting midi data.

Please help!!

alvin,

are you sure that you are getting midi from your drum pad? (there is a little square that lights up in ableton in the upper right when it receives midi -- you will see this light up when you are using the m-audio keyboard.)

Hi Andrew,

Yes I'm sure. Cos I was able to trigger an audio track with my drum pad with no prob. But triggering an audio sample through and audio track always sets the entire sequence to play thus I was hoping that I could just trigger a sample through simpler.

I'm having a problem with this as well. Even if I've set up a Simpler default in Ableton\Library\Defaults\Dropping Samples\On Drum Rack ... It isn't used when I hot swap the sample.

A 'default' default simplers is used instead of the one I've saved. Guess drop sample and hot swap does not work as the same event?

I think you make your perfect "default" Simpler and then use that preset for both dropping samples "on drum rack" and "on track view", as well as in the Instruments folder, all in the Defaults folder.
