Just saw this youtube video of Novation's automap.

Looks really cool. For those who use it with Live, how is it? Is it worth buying a Novation controller?

Hey Hey, I just picked it up yesterday. It's sweet! Havn't had much of a chance to play with it yet, but it's a really nice design and is packed with featurees. It comes with a DVD tutorial and seems great.

best controller ever. I used an oxygen 8 before and use a padkontrol and bcr 2000 too.
the novation's automapping and LCD screens make everything 1000x faster......
you click on the device and automatically it's mapped, with the first 8 mappings
displayed and the rest (depending on how many parameters are controlled with
your device, like gate there's 8-10 or so... arpeggiator many more... plug-ins etc
you get the idea) accessible by page up/down function. also, the speed dial!!! wow.
you can click on anything and use that knob to control it. even your window size,
to anything on your mac, like iTunes volume... etc... I honestly am able to do
everything with this controller, I find myself no longer needing the other two it's
so user friendly. buy it watch the tutorials and don't look back

And it's getting more straightened out----they just released a new beta yesterday:

yep, i am trying to do my part by testin the beta versions. they seem to be on the ball with answering their beta testers and getting new revisions out quickly.

my current favorite companies becuause of the quality of their support, software updates, & listening to their users comments and feature requests are:

novation
rane / serato scratch
ableton

I can see myself doing besiness with these guys for years to come.

this thread looks like a good place to ask an advice about automap.

i had tried out a friend of mine novation remote 25sl compact with live (he's using cubase 4) and found a big problem, i could control only the very first 8 mixer channels, no way to switch bank, read the manual but the key supposed to do so, wasn't doing anything at all. anyone has experienced this problem?

i have this one also with evolution uc33 instant mapping, and managed to solve it onlyy in mackie-emulation mode.

thank you!

the up and down arrows/buttons next to the l.e.d. scripts at the top of the controller scrolls thru the banks / knob assignments. you will be able to control all the channels, only 8 at a time with the sliders.

hope this helps.

While I'm mostly happy with the Live Automap, there's a few controls that aren't getting much use on mine, so I'd like to re-assign them. I don't like MIDI Learn for several reasons, suffice to say I think the controller (not the song file) should be the brain. Ideally I'd have:

- Right side, 2nd row buttons to Solo (instead of Arm, as I don't record often).
- Left side top row buttons to Launch Clip on their respective track.
- Left side bottom row buttons to Stop Clip on respective track (mightn't use it as much, but it could be handy).

The rest I'd probably leave as is.

Problem is, I've tried just with the first left row button but I'm not getting anywhere. :?

The original (automap) settings for the first button were:
Control: CC
DispType: 0-127
LowVal: 1
HighVal: 0
Ports: ComnPORT
MidiChan: ComnCHAN
CC Num: 24

So far, I've just changed the Port to U1 and the CC to 100 (Launch Clip). In Preferences I've got Mackie Control input set to Port 1, with Track and Remote on Port 1.

Nothing.

What have I missed?

I cannot replicate what I see in this video, using the ableton template (number 40) - I can control only the first 8 plugin parameters with the 8 rotary on the upper left, but cannot find a way to use the other rotary.

bottom 8 (on lft hand side abover pads) need to be assigned.
top eight (endless encoders) can switch assignments in the automap feature by using the up and down arrows on your upper left hand corner for whatever vst / effect your are running.

does this help?

thank you dphouse84 for your answer.

What you explained, is what I can do with no problems.

In the youtube video, instead, you can control the plugins (for example massive) with all the rotary, not just the upper ones.
How can I do it ?

i am currently at work (working hard) LOL
and am unable to look at videos.

if i remember correctly if you are going to use the novation template 40 (automap) the top left row must be used with automap.
this includes the buttons unless you want to create your own template.

I believe this is how you will have to toggle back and forth from banks for your custom setup.

from the novation manual
NOTE: The Input AND Output of the ReMOTE SL in the ‘Control Surfaces’ section must be set to ReMOTE SL Port 2.
(double check your settings on page 23 of the novation remote SL manual)

The Ableton Live Automap template (template 40) must be selected on the ReMOTE SL to use it in Ableton Live Automap mode.... Whilst using the ReMOTE SL in Ableton Live Automap mode, you can switch to any other template on the unit (for example to control hardware MIDI devices or Automap-wrapped plug-ins using the Automap Universal template) and then switch back to the Ableton Live Automap template to control Live again.

if you have any more questions let me know i will try to help out as best I can. they also have templates & template editors for download on their website.

i am still working with automap 1 while they work the bugs out for automap2 .
