Try disabling airport while you work, does that help? Ever since the 10.5.2 update I've been fighting this. Was just working on a tune that was only 30% and doing this, got fed up and came to check the forums. Guess i"m not the only one.

What rev. of mbp are you guys using? I've got a 2.16 and all is well here. Well the usual stinky 70% max until drop outs anyways. 10.5.2.

Man, so many people report having a great working system with the same equipment. What are you doing wrong - are you pushing it in a direction it doesn't want to go? Or maybe you have bad electricity?

But yeah I have to agree computers can be so difficult sometimes. Such feisty little females!

Try this:

I haven't paid for it yet, not sure if I need to.
There are a few threads on the power-stepping with Live + MacBook Pro (Santa Rosa chipset specifically). Others have explained it pretty well....
Upping the voltage to the CPU works fine for me -- I had the same problem.
Still not too happy about it, though. I'm not sure where the responsibility lies, with Apple or Ableton....

My update manager promted me to update Airport tools yesterday. Might this problem be fixed by that?

I had a formation some weeks ago about optimising osx 10.4/10.5 for audio production with digidesign product.
One of the biggest source of probs was airport and bule tooth capabilities of the machines causing ressources problem.

I use live on my macbook ( not pro ) and it's pretty usable over 50% 60 %
I use mostly midi+softsynths not a lot of audio stream
but it works well

It was fine on 10.4 for me as well, 10.5 is where it started being an issue. I have results in the Live 6 &7 Performance thread show marked differences between performance on the two OS's. The new Airport update did not fix anything for me.
Anyway, if I disable airport, everything is fine and smooth sailing up past 70%, with airport on, it's hit or miss after 30% concerning glitches and drop outs.
