I thought I understood the concept of recording a scene into the arrangement, but perhaps not....

I want to record a scene into the arrangement without overwriting all of the other tracks with silence.

In this case, I am scoring to video, and launching a scene with the arrangement record armed overwrites the video clip (and all other tracks) with silence. I know I can just drag the left handle of the remaining clip to recover all of the audio, but this is quite annoying every time you want to record a scene into the arrangement. Is there a way to overdub a scene into the exsiting arrangment, only overwriting the tracks that are playing in that scene? (did that make sense?)

I think I wasn't having this problem before, so I'm not sure what I did to change it. Launching a clip in while the arrangement is recording only over writes that particular track, it seems like launching a scene should only overwrite the tracks that pertain to that scene. Right?

If you trigger a scene, all of those clips will start playing. Even the silent ones, which will replace whatever was playing in the track before you switched scenes.


BUT you can disable the silent clips by right clicking on the square in each of the 'empty' cells.

the next time you trigger this scene, tracks with a stop-button still in them will stop, but truly empty clips within that scene will not make any change to whatever they were doing beforehand... i.e they will continue playing the previous clip as if nothing happened.

i have no idea if this works for a video track.

Thank you very much. I'm new to the program and didn't know about the "remove stop button" option. And it does work on video tracks... I just removed all of the stop buttons from the track which holds the video clip, and the scene no longer overwrites the video.
