A dialog box comes up saying ----> An error occurred while reading "/Volumes/GLYPH-500 GB/Live+Reason projects/gone groovin Project/gone groovin.als" Apparently, the document was created by a more recent, and incompatible, version of live than this. [Unknown base type id 197]

Im not understanding ebcause I have the latest version of live

Im running 10.4.11 with live 7.0.2

It sounds a little like a corrupted file to me, but on a long shot ...
have you tried downloading one of the newer beta version?
they are available here

http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=88062

7.03 beta 6 would certainly be 'newer'. Although I wouldn't bank on that being a solution.

Sometimes certain VST plugins can prevent a set from loading, so you could try temporarily de-activating your VST folder. But seems an unlikely cause in this case.

there may be other reasons why it has decided that the file is 'newer', that other people can suggest a remedy for.

I've also encountered this problem.
Someone suggested (think it was Tone Deft) that it may be fighting
with my soundcard for some reason or another.
I switched to my lame onboard sound, and the session opened.
Once it was open, I could then change back to my proper soundcard.

The crappy thing is that I have to do this every time I open the problem session.
I have tried other ways to overcome this, but nothing else I've tried works.
My experience may be totally unrelated to yours, but hey.

Hello

I'm Having the same problem, I have a motu ultralite on a 2.33 ghz intel core 2 duo, 2 gb ram system. With ableton live 7.0.3.

I tried disabling and shutting down the soundcard, and i also deleted all the vsts that i had, and no luck.

I really need to open this project. I hope this wont happen to anyone, this is very frustrating

seriously
i am having the exact same error with version 7.0.3

never once did i use a newer version with the problematic .als

i am tempted to reformat

what pisses me off the most is that i created the .als in 7.0.3 and from out of the blue it does not want to open

No backup it sounds like too, ouch.
Have you tried the file on another machine?
Do you by any chance have Reaktor running in the set?
Have you tried creating a new user and firing it up in that?
Moved all plugs out of their folder in Library? Disabling plugs in Live prefs may have the same effect. Tbh doesn't sound like a plugin prob but who knows.
Good luck.

the backups gives me the same error!

did not try another machine yet

i don't believe i have a reaktor vsti in this set, but it is a rewired set with reason4. reason4 is the slave. the set used to open fine when reason4 was closed.

did not try another user on the same machine. i tweaked my xp pro for basically one user only.

i already tried renaming my "preference.cfg" file and opening up Live (this disables the vsts, settings, etc.)
VVV

i already tried opening a new set and browsiing the explorer bar in live to open up the set's properties (like if i would like to view the track by track) but it gives me the same darn error!

:( :(

i should install live on another machine before i reformat

If live's browser sees the folder, have you tried importing all the seperate tracks one at a time into a new project?

YES that's what i meant when I said I was browsing the set through the explorer through live7

it would give me the exact error when i would want to open up the set to view the tracks

No offense, but it sounds like a cracked version?
In this case there's not much we can do.

If it's a legit version, install Live 7.0.14, check if it still happens and send us your serial (can't find a registration for your email) and Live set to support@ableton.com and we're happy to take a look at the problem.

Cheers,
