Trying to get ableton quantize to sound like mpc ...

hi, I am programing with drum racks and I am noticing that when i set the quantizing to 1/16 or 1/32 it still doesnt have that same feel as the MPC when I trigger the samples. Is there some swing adjustment I have mised to give it the same default mpc 2000 feel? I know you can adjust swing in the bottom but which setting will make it most minmic the feel of the mpc?

Try them all until you find the one that you think mosts sounds like the MPC.

this question is nearing "how do i remove the vocals from this song?" levels
maybe melodyne 6 will address both 'issues' and then everyone can stfu

that's Corn-y! lol, for real! i'm waiting for the plug in that you stick you dick in a tube, and it reads your desire, and produces your own "daft punk" tune. this of course will lead to many, many different acts. why, someday, i could have my own x-tina album!
here's a link which might prove helpful...

I don't notice a difference between the default mpc 1/16 quantize and live's 1/16 quantize.
I am using softsynths though.
Are you using outboard midi. There could be some timing issues with your setup.

16th is 16th's on any sequencer.
I trhink the OP is just an idiot, I bet he has never used an Akai MPC

'adding an mpc feel' is possible!
try using an mpc for that
it works!
you only get an mpc-feel, because its an mpc!
its the hardware and tight sequencer that does the trick.
i programm beats on mpc and import them in ableton, i guess thats pretty much the way to do it. and easy as hell.
but indeed you have to own an mpc for that.

Right, just like the compressors on the MPC are the same as every other sampler. The thing people are looking for is the drift found in older drum machines. Unfortunately the PC age has eliminated most of this with more precise timing. (This is kind of an oxy-moron because of flaws in some components at times but, the internal timing is pretty much spot on.)
Try, using a little random on some parts. You are trying to make a system designed for precision to not be so precise. This is why there is a random dial on just about everything in Live. You can also turn off quantize once you have everything locked in and shift a few notes here and there. A combination of all of this is going to bring out a more natural feel. If that is what you are looking for. Experimentation is the key to finding the sound and feel you want. Please don't give us anymore sounds that everybody else has already produced. Have Fun!

this is so fucking stupid.
last time i got involved in this retarded topic, JERKOFF AND HYDE was saying the exact opposite thing, that hardware sequencers will always be tighter than computers.
what a bunch of horseshit.
Anyway, i think the OP is talking about the mpc's swing function, or at least i hope he is.

MPC swing and Ableton swings are fundamentally different. The MPC 1/16th swing moves the 2 and 4 forward AND the 3 and 5 backward. Most 1/16th swings, including Live's, only move the 2 and 4 forward.

Nobody defined which MPC either. There are different characteristics to all of them. The 3000 being the preferred choice by many.

Thanks for the tech on that. This is why I implied it seems to be best to do some manual shuffling as well. This seems to be the best solution in Live at the moment.

Here you go dude. A few to be getting on with.
If you have reason there is a groove template captured from an mpc. Its actually in the regroove presets. regroove is pretty amazing actually. if you don't have reason 4 you maybe able to download an old rex converted to midi from here
http://www.peff.com/journal/2006/01/28/ ... -tutorial/
Here are the Logic Dudes take on it
http://www.logic-cafe.com/content-files ... 3000_Q.lso
Here is the Cubase Dudes take on it:-
http://download.yousendit.com/D39A6F2C61A448D6
Find a file called RAMpresets.xml, it's in Document And Settings/USER/Applications Data/Steinberg/Cubase../Presets/
Make sure you keep a copy of the old file, when replaced with this one, you will see lot's of new quantize options - MPC Grooves, SP 1200 Grooves and few more. You are able to add these groove to your current RAMpresets.xml file, but you need to know a little bit of XML to understand how to do it.

I think you can sort of simulate a MPC swing by using the Live swing and adding a negative delay on the track.

+1 - I didn't know/care until now. :]
