hi, I am programing with drum racks and I am noticing that when i set the quantizing to 1/16 or 1/32 it still doesnt have that same feel as the MPC when I trigger the samples. Is there some swing adjustment I have mised to give it the same default mpc 2000 feel? I know you can adjust swing in the bottom but which setting will make it most minmic the feel of the mpc?

Try them all until you find the one that you think mosts sounds like the MPC.

maybe melodyne 6 will address both 'issues' and then everyone can stfu

I don't notice a difference between the default mpc 1/16 quantize and live's 1/16 quantize.

I am using softsynths though.

Are you using outboard midi. There could be some timing issues with your setup.

16th is 16th's on any sequencer.

i programm beats on mpc and import them in ableton, i guess thats pretty much the way to do it. and easy as hell.

but indeed you have to own an mpc for that.

Right, just like the compressors on the MPC are the same as every other sampler. The thing people are looking for is the drift found in older drum machines. Unfortunately the PC age has eliminated most of this with more precise timing. (This is kind of an oxy-moron because of flaws in some components at times but, the internal timing is pretty much spot on.)

Try, using a little random on some parts. You are trying to make a system designed for precision to not be so precise. This is why there is a random dial on just about everything in Live. You can also turn off quantize once you have everything locked in and shift a few notes here and there. A combination of all of this is going to bring out a more natural feel. If that is what you are looking for. Experimentation is the key to finding the sound and feel you want. Please don't give us anymore sounds that everybody else has already produced. Have Fun!

MPC swing and Ableton swings are fundamentally different. The MPC 1/16th swing moves the 2 and 4 forward AND the 3 and 5 backward. Most 1/16th swings, including Live's, only move the 2 and 4 forward.

Nobody defined which MPC either. There are different characteristics to all of them. The 3000 being the preferred choice by many.

Thanks for the tech on that. This is why I implied it seems to be best to do some manual shuffling as well. This seems to be the best solution in Live at the moment.

Find a file called RAMpresets.xml, it's in Document And Settings/USER/Applications Data/Steinberg/Cubase../Presets/

Make sure you keep a copy of the old file, when replaced with this one, you will see lot's of new quantize options - MPC Grooves, SP 1200 Grooves and few more. You are able to add these groove to your current RAMpresets.xml file, but you need to know a little bit of XML to understand how to do it.

I think you can sort of simulate a MPC swing by using the Live swing and adding a negative delay on the track.
