hi,

due to the low dollar course and a temporary economically favorable moment i'm considering very seriously to buy a machinedrum.

i already own an emx1 and enough hardware synths, effects, samplers, controllers and acoustic and electric instruments...

should i go forward with programming in the usual software tools (reaktor, live, microtonic, battery) and concentrate on what i already own or go for something new?

if you were me, what would you suggest?

ps: i know it is a pretty silly question and it does probably mean nothing but i'm interested in reading your opinions....

how much is it at the moment?

To be honest, I'd probably get the Reaktor manuals out and learn some new tricks. If you've got 'enough hardware' already, why add more? The Machinedrum is undoubtably lovely, but if you've got Reaktor etc...

Well, you could use your current drum machine and trig Impulses... I think there is an advantage at using a tr-style input of drums sometimes... I am not found of the elektron machine drum sound myself, too digital sounding, and not a really groovy sound... I prefer the Jomox999 or 888 but at that price, I agree that I can come up with good drums sounds with live/microtonic etc... instead

I guess you are talking about buying a used unit from USA ?

regardless, if you are careful and buy a 2nd unit off a seller with good feedback...there's no reason why you can't sell it a month later for what it cost you.

no it would be a new one coming directly from sweden, if i buy it here in switzerland it would be +700 USD

i always dreamed to have one, but in fact i think it is not another piece of hardware that will change my life....

it is about ideas an not equipment, but i wanted one for so long and now it would be possible....

I love my Machinedrum, it's the one piece of hardware I don't think I'd ever sell. The interface is great, programming sounds on it is fast and fun, especially when you start messing with the UW aspects. It's a much different way of working compared to hardware.

I'm in the same situation recently - buying a used MD UW I from USA. I still have to save the money to get it, but i'm soo in love with this thingy. I'm about to sell my MPC 1000, so the money will come. (i hardly use the mpc's sampler abilities due to the fact that i don't work with samples anymore). It will perfect fit my workflow and music, so i'm sold.
