just installed mpk49, modwheel not working in live

for some strange reason, the modwheel doesn't work in live (live preset on the mpk49 selected). I have input: remote, sync and track selected in the midi properties page. pitch bend works ok.
in reason, on the other hand, the modwheel works ok, but the pitchbend wheel, once used, goes to the extreme up position in the software when it goes back to the physical middle position....
anybody have any ideas how to fix all this?
so far, I haven't been able to make the key's aftertouch work, either, neither in reason nor live (yes, I have it enabled on the mpk49...)
