Erratic MIDI

Hi, I'm using one of these:
seems to work fine in reason yet in ableton, when the sliders are static after being moved the assigned value continues moving in the prior direction. it seems to mimic the movement in timing too - but leaves gaps.
for example, if i move quickly from 1-20 in midi values, then it will continue this and flash the values 60, 80, 100, 120 and so on untill it reaches 127. but if i move slowly from 1-20 in midi values, then it flash the values 60, 65, 75, 80 and so on until it reaches 127 (of course they arnt rounded off like that when i do it, this is just an example).
this seems to be an ableton specific problem, any ideas?
