Experiences with external effect

Does anyone use the external effect ?

I set it up last night to a external reverb unit and worked out the latency to be around 1.6ms

But i get clicks and pops when using analogue even when using the maximum audio buffer size of 2048

I have an m-audio 410 soundcard

Any tips on what I may be doing wrong?

not sure.

the only two devices I have run through the plug are an alesis compressor and a reel-to-reel deck. mostly just to test it out and play around, but I didn't encounter any problems.

I think you need to separate the issues of ext FX and analog... maybe your analog problem isn't related to using the ext FX??

if your buffer size is 2048 you won't be getting 1.6ms latency from an external unit!! more like 64ms

perhaps there is an issue with that?

Clicks and pops when sending externally.
Could you describe the I/O you are using. Are you connecting them digitally. This can be a problem when you do not have items properly synched by wordclock.
Most simplistically, you would clock your reverb device to your 410.
Buffer size should not be an issue, since the demands of sending externally are minimal. Keep it at your typically low buffer sizes. CPU consumption is not your issue here.

The reverb unit only has line level analogue ins/outs.
