core audio makes set unplayable

I have a set that works perfectly when i plug my macbook into the firebox audio interface. Tonight I tried to play the set just off the core audio through the headphone jack and it will hardly play???
Audio dropouts, CPU running at 27% on just 2 tracks - eventually the whole thing froze.

Any idea why this should happen?

I'm almost positive that the firebox runs via core audio, so there is effectively no difference. I have been having a problem the last few days that when airport is on I get lots of pops and crackles with any audio device..

Do you have the same latency (audio buffer) settings for each device?

ditto for me as well. have you just recently updated your airport? it seem to be the culprit for alot of people.

I have exactly the same audio buffer setting with the firebox plugged in as the when i try and play the set just through the headphones jack. The only difference is I select
Audio Output Device : Built-in Output (0 in, 2 Out) from the preferences.

Its something similar I've noticed with Logic as well. If I plug in the headphones whilst a track is playing I get an overload message. Tracks play better (i.e. less overload messages) when played via the firebox rather that just listening through the mac speakers.

I'll have a play around today and see if I can figure it out by switching of airport, removing plugins etc.

These are two different problems - the first problem in the thread sounds like the airport updater issue, this one sounds like you are still using logic 8, and havn't updated to 8.0.1 -there is an issue when you unplug/plug in head phones to the built in out put when logic is playing back it gives n overload message, this has gone in the latest update (well I've not had it since then).

Either way, make sure oyu report these issues to Apple too, otherwise if enough people stay silent on it, it might take awhile to get a fix.

Problems seems to be airport.
If I turn it off before starting Ableton - everything works fine both through the firebox and the laptop speakers.
