Ableton will not open unless Novation X-Station sound driver is disabled.
This defeats the purpose of having bought it.
Any suggestions?

mine works fine with live (that is, it's not a problem with the combination, not sure what you're doing wrong (i'm pc too)).

make sure you disable any onboard or other soundcards you have in your system.
i had issues starting live with my x-station plugged in via usb & having my external m-audio audiophile going at the same time.. ended up ditching the audiophile and used the x-station integrated sound instead.. not a problem since.

If I disable the Realtek HD, the comp comes up saying there is no sound driver despite having the X-Station sound driver installed.
In addition, if I run Novation X (set Ableton sound pref to Novation X) Ableton crashes regardless as to whether Realtek is abled or disbaled.
Now, I am running Ableton in Windows XP via Bootcamp. I wonder if that is the problem.

Well, ASIO4ALL seems to be doing the trick - but now I do not have misi registering.
Any suggestions? Novation X doesn't show up under preferences on Ableton. Just the wavetable.
Thanks.
