The Reichbox, an Audio Effect Rack inspired by Steve Reich

Hi All,

I'd like to share with you a rack I made, the Reichbox.
Download here:
http://nwrecords.com/storage/racks/host ... Jepsen.adg

This rack enables you to make phase patterns/phase music in the style of one of the grandfathers of electronic music, Steve Reich. You can use it with any audio source.

Steve Reich invented the concept of phase music by playing the same loop on two tapemachines simultaneously - the machines would gradually start to play out of sync and make his signature phasing effect. He explains it here, at 3:13: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=q0DQRfm0u ... re=related

The rack I've made consists of an auto filter, a filter delay and a saturator.

By slamming the second macro control('delay filter') all the way to 127 you will get an instant Reichian loop that will continue to change your audio source to the end of time - or until you switch it off.

The 'tape noise'(saturator) parameter is just there to add some optional grit to the sound.

I hope some of you will find it fun or useful!
Any feedback on the rack would be greatly appreciated!

I'd like to thank friend_kami for offering upload space, cheers dude!

Andreas

@ forge - You can DOWNLOAD YouTube vids?! I need me some of that.

@ oevboev - The rack looks ace, dude. Seems like something that I could be using for live performance for a while to come! Will give it a full test-drive when I get home from work...

Works nice :)

Thnx for this.
How do you change the timing of phase change, by decreasing the delay value or?

'The max delay value for the filter delay is 999ms, and I've set the 3 delays for 999, 995 and 991 ms. For more drastic effects you could lower some of them. Let me/us know if you find a cool new settings for the parameters!

About downloading from youtube - there's a lot of different options outthere but I can recommend a program called Miro. http://www.getmiro.com/
It also works as a torrentdownloader and a whole lot more. Highly recommended.

.
if you use firefox there are heaps of addons - the one I use most is 'downloadhelper' - it puts a little icon next to the URL address field which starts spinning if there is something on the page that can be downloaded, then you just press it and download it

thank for your feedback so far, it makes me really glad that you like the rack.
If you're a phase nerd like me I imagine you'll like this video of a guy doing the impossible - playing Steve Reich's 'piano phase' on two pianos at once.

He can't possibly be a normal person. I even doubt he is a person, think he's a machine on the inside :)

HI
I know this is an old post, but is this pack still around? The link is dead. I'd LOVE to have a go at it.

thanks for even making it available in the first place.
