Hey guys...How are u all?

Ok, im interested to know how u use abletons built in effects to mangle your sounds and make them go crazy......and what is ur favourite?

I love the Ping Pong delay, increase the dry wet and feedback, and decrease the time delay.......works pretty well on Dance Music..

However, im sure some of u guys have some other cool ass tricks with these plugs....

I make electronic music myself so the wonkier the effect the better.

So please share them

I just started played with the Sample Offset in the Clip Envelope for some instant mangling gratification.

In short, it's gives you the capability to instantly skip ahead or drop behind the current playing point of an Audio Clip - kind like if you were listening to a tape and took the head and dropped it ahead of or behind the current listening point.

Hard to explain, easy to do and great effect.

try messing about with ping pong, reverb and an appregiator together. short, quick bursts on the appregiator though. sounds supurb for little background sounds.

I love the phaser - it's always been my favorite effect. Combined with a delay (usually Filter Delay), some great results can come from whacking out the frequency and the LFO rate/ammount.

Great for bass drums, funnily enough.

After seeing Tom Cosm using it, I have some designs on the Grain Delay effect but haven't really looked into how it works (a 'rtfm' moment I think!).

Also, the 'sample offset' envelope in the clip automation window is beautiful. Combine that with a gated reverb, and you're laughing! WoooooOOOP!

i like to dirty up reverbs and use them as mono instead of stereo. kind of like my own interpretation of spring reverb, but not really. in a return channel i would add one autofilter followed by a reverb followed by some sort of saturation effect (since we're talking about Live effects here, i guess one could use either the saturator effect or something, but i prefer using Izotope Vinyl). i then set the auto filter to follow the envelope, and the LFO to a really slow rate and use the random waveform. i use a band pass filter. the reverb is then set to mono using the eco algorithm and with the wet signal all the way. then the saturator is just to add dirt to the sound. i also add a slapback delay for added texture, but i don't remember if it's before or after the reverb.

I REALLY struggle to get that "big room" effect on my main riffs when i get to a break down.....

Can anyone recomend a useful method for this......Ive tried using a little Dynamic Tube (although i struggle with that) and on a seperate bus channel some Reverb, i can NEVER seem to get the settings just right tho...always either sounds too weak or too much of a mess....

Thanks for reminding about sample offset technique.

I definitely enjoying beat mangling.

I've been using 3 different EQs in rack chain to split frequencies [low/mid/high] then selectively apply
[beat repeat for example on mid range / taste of reverb on high]

Really helped my loops evolve bit more. Give more depth.

2 knob multi fx racks.

1 knob selects, one tweaks... then do everything by hand for that live music feel...

That's a great rack. Sounds good.
I called it Roby's Rack, using it in a track right now.

One thing that's really, really fun:

If you don't have one, find one free audio reverser effect, there are freeware ones, just one simple button, reverses the incoming audio.

Then choose 3 effects, i'm using a chorus, reverb & simple delay, but it can be anything, experimenting rewards here.

Now put an audio reverser between the chorus & the reverb & another between the reverb & the delay.
Switch the first one on reverse, leave the second.

Put this on a send and get some audio on a track going to it 100% (sends only). Maybe something fairly dry & simple.
Now try out different settings on the effects, or changing their order, or switching for other ones, etc.

Bonus: when you like the effect you've created, copy this send to another one, for instance Send A to Send B, and then fully open send B on Send A.
Pan one fully left, other right. On Send B, change the polarity on the Reversers and switch the order of the effects.

Use an utility plugin to compensate for any difference in volume between sends.

Resonator! Set it to the lowest of low settings, then follow it by a bpf, and you're off. lovely.
