Using AL in a live environment with click - equipment

Hi All,

Hope someone can offer advice - i have tried searching for the answer and have learned quite a bit but I have nothing that I know for sure, so i thought I would just ask.

I have used Ableton for a while and am comfortable with it. What I have not done before is integrate it in a live band situation so it is sequencing samples and providing a click track for the drummer. I have found a few tutorials on how to set this up in the software, but i really dont know what actual hardware I may need. Of course I am hoping that i dont need to buy anything more than i have but fear the worst.

Currently I have PC, Ableton, Soundcard with L + R outputs (maybe i can do it but only in mono? by panning click to left etc?).

Is it possible to send the click to the drummer or will I need an extra piece of kit - i hear people mention these splitte rboxes like that saphire thing (£200 ouch). I realise these are great for splitting signals to certain outputs.

So i guess my question boils down to whether or not it is at all possible to send a click to a drummers headphones, and the sequenced to a PA in the meantime whilst i save up for a fancy splitter box?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks
Ben

just create a 1-bar midi clip with notes on every downbeat and put a lightweight drumsynth on the track, pan it hard right and feed to the drummer

dont forget to sum all your audio in mono before panning it hard left feeding it to the mono channel of the PA.

for summing to mono and panning use the utility plugin.

I play e-drums and I do it just as 4.33 described. The "click channel" of my sound card is routed (along with other tracks I'm monitoring) to my headphone mix. Works fine.
